Yes, but do you know for sure you get it on all tariffs?
And will it continue regardless of tariff price changes?
Edit: "Extra Saver discount is available until at least 1st November 2009", so presumably as long as you stay with an extra saver tariff, it will.
If you can't see that information online, you can't really decide whether to change without calling them to confirm.
Does it vary with areas of the country? If so, you can't just listen to what someone else says they are getting. I am told here in the East Midlands we get -6% for direct debit and -6% for online billing. Total -12% off the bill. This was the same on v6 as it is now on v8.
Do the switching sites know the discounts to give you reliable information?
Edit: yes Uswitch do, so maybe it is public knowledge somewhere!0 -
I'm currently on Energy Online Extra Saver 5 paying £37 per month and in 2007 used, Gas - 5081 kwh and Elec - 1487 kwh for the year.
Uswitch says I'll save £165 a year switching to Version 8 but
MoneySupermarket is saying I’ll be £17 worse off though , Energyhelpline said similar.
Looking at the prices on the Eon website, Version 8 definatly looks cheaper

I'm on v5 and when I spoke to the agent at E-On, they said I'd be £130 or so better off if I switched to v8. However, they used my recent 5 months of usage to estimate, and had no idea how many gas/elec units they were working from. My concern is that they will be telling us that it's cheaper, then increase them by more than they've increased v5, and then we won't be able to change back down to the lower v5 rates - aka, there will be nobody left on the older vX tarrifs...
Also, all of the energy comparison websites seem to have the old (or sometimes ancient) prices per unit etc, so it's pointless looking on things there. The great thing about E-On's website is that there's no way of calculating usage based on kW used...Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0 -

She said the discount is less but but the prices are cheaper so I just switched over the phone.
goin to take my readings now0 -
If EON have in fact raised their prices for certain tariffs, aren't they obliged to notify their customers who are affected? Surely they can't just raise prices when they feel like it and not notify you?0
-
It looks like v8 may be very similar to BG Click Energy 5, so E.on have this new tariff to allow them to compete with it for new customers. Existing customers can change if they are alert enough. Then when BG increase their prices, E.on can follow them.
We will see, but I think it is worth being on v8 if it makes a saving, and it certainly does against v6.0 -

I think a general press release counts as a notification. Eon have never informed me before of any price increases. They always confirm when I change tariffs though.0 -
I think they are obliged to write - but they are usually late in doing so - often writing a month after the changes took place. If you are switching away this can work in your favour - as you get 14 days after being notified to tell them you are leaving and then the price increase does not apply.0

Recently received my V8 contract details through the post. 6% Direct Debit, 3% Duel Fuel, 6.30% online discount, which equates to 15.30% in total.
That is 4% less than my V5 discount was, but this is being offset by the fact I am not paying the increased tariff prices. I believe it was a good move to change in my circumstances.0 -
Same as above. I was on V5, E-On said I would save £124 pa by moving to V8. Energyhelpline said I would pay £28 more. Phoned Energyhelpline who confirmed that E-On had changed their prices but they hadn't received them to be able to update their website. E-on said that their V5 prices were put up last Friday but V8 have yet to be put up. Swings and roundabouts really.
I have switched to V8, the rules are you can only switch twice every 3 months within E-On online, but you can phone up everyday and change!! I shall submit my meter readings now (good advice) :T and keep my eye on V8 prices.
Thanks all!0
