Looking at the price difference v5 seems about 30% - 40% more expensive on some tariffs.

    Saver 5 prices

    Electricity
Normal units up to 900 kWhs
    25.1685 pence

    Normal units
    10.437 pence per kWh

    Gas
Normal units up to 2680 kWhs
    6.52995 pence

    Normal units
    3.5574 pence per kWh

    Saver 8 prices

Normal units up to 900 kWhs
    18.2385 pence

    Normal units
    10.206 pence per kWh

    Gas
Normal units up to 2680 kWhs
    4.5696 pence

    Normal units
    2.9127 pence per kWh

Mine's a big increase as well. Electricity up to 900kWh is 38% increase, above 900kWh 1%. Gas up to 2,680kWh is a 43% increase, above 2680 is 22% up. With this level of increase, it's got to be worth the risk of losing 2/3% in discounts.

im with eon for my gas and electric im on energy online saver 5 and can change to energy online saver 8 this is about 20%cheaper
is it worth changing or is it lower in price because it has not been raised yet?

Prices for Energy Online Extra Save 5 have been quoted incorrectly on Eons Website I was told this morning by customer service.

She said they would be corrected today, but how many people have changed to Version 8, thinking it is cheaper because of incorrect information given out on Eons website.

I was advised to stay on Version 5.

Thats interesting as I have just changed. As I can no longer see my original Saver 5 tariff online would it be possible to give the corrected information when available. Thanks

I have checked with Eon again and they have now given me the same price as you quoted. I have asked for a Manager to telephone me to confirm the prices in the morning and will post a reply.

Hopefully, they will get it right this time.

I'm getting confused now - are we now saying that V5 and V8 are identical, except for the discounts being 2/3% smaller on V8. Or is mirabelle saying that V5 carries the large price rises as we originally thought? I've already switched, but I suppose its possible to switch back?

I was wondering the same - checked on Uswitch and it claims that for my consumption it will cost £26 more on Online 8 rather than online 5 (BG was £22 cheaper). Strangely (or not), checking under Electricity and Gas separately on uSwitch, I could apparently save £57 switching Gas to NPower and nearly £300 switching electricity to Southern Electric - clearly there must be something wrong with the figures? Switch on the Which? website is showing Online 8 as £50 more expensive (and they have apparently updated their prices to reflect the price rises).

Also, looking in my Eon Online management area, I see that my current prices are:

    Electricity
    Normal units
    10.437 pence per kWh

    Standing Charge
    36.3195 pence per Day

    Gas
    Normal units
    3.5574 pence per kWh

    Standing Charge
    21.8295 pence per Day

The standing charge on my June bill was

    Electricity
    Normal units used
    X kWh at 9.28p each

    Y kWh at 9.72p each

    Standing Charge
X days at 17.88p per day

Y days at 18.86p per day

    Gas
    Gas units used
    X kWh at 2.451p each

    Y kWh at 2.774p each

    Standing Charge
X days at 11.59p per day

Y days at 7.891p per day

Have standing charges for electricity really doubled - seems much more than announced?

    Confused as ever.

Also been shocked by the price increases when i checked my V5 account today.

    Electric Unit rate - +1.95%
    Electric Standing charge - +97.25%
    Gas Unit rate - +22.12%
    Gas Standing charge - +79.37%

I expected there to be a large hike in prices but the standing charge increases are crazy.

Can anyone confirm the above to be correct? I am an Electricity online extra saver 5 customer and when I logged onto my account last Friday my rates had gone up. I've just logged on again now and these higher unit charges are still being quoted.

So is it a mistake or has mirabelle been given incorect information?

I called eon today - initially the lady on the phone told me that the tariffs were identical for v5 and v8, but that v5 had larger discount (18% vs 14.2%), so I should stay with v5. I told her that the figures showing when I log onto my account had v8 at a much lower rate...I read them out to her and she was really surprised, put me on hold to check, then came back to confirm that the figures on the web are definitely right, and it was definitely worth switching to v8!
Hope that helps - it certainly sounds like eon employees might be confused!
  • Hi,
I'm in the same situation, I'm currently on EOn's
Energy Online Extra Saver 5. So is the general concensus that it's a good idea to swap to

    EnergyOnline Extra Saver 8?

I'm confused more than ever by it all!!
