The danger with switching to V8 is that when they eventually increase this tariff which maybe in 1 wk 1 mth 2 mths who knows? that the tariff maybe higher than V5-Prior to the latest increase to tariff V5 worked out about £40 a yr cheaper than V8 for me-it is now approx £115 dearer so on first thought it seems to make sense to switch to V8. But if V8 increases in just 1 mth say and to a higher figure than V5 I would be worse off with no option to switch back to V5.0

Canny_mal, had a look at that site, and that post code gets an amazing discount as we only get total 12% here in the East Midlands.
However, when I put our postcode in, the prices for v5 are not correct. I have a bill now showing the rates before and after 22 Aug for v5, and that site isn't showing the new rates.
It seems to be showing v8 rates for v5.
I have now changed to v8 and still get the 12% disc.
So as MSE has been saying, do check with the supplier before deciding what to do.0 -

Yes you're quite correct, energyhelpline are still showing the V5 unit rates pre the 22nd Aug increase. Apparently they can't change their rates until they've been notified officially by E-on and they haven't done so yet.
I got my new V5 rates from signing into my E-on online account. Taking into account the much lower disount on V8 (13.3% compared to 26%) even at the new prices V5 works out almost the same as V8 for my annual usage.
There's no point in me switching to V8 because when they put the rates up on that tariff I'll be paying considerably more than I would on V5.
Hope that all makes sense.0 -
I'm so mad
I phone up on 23/08/08 and was told I'd save "over £100" by switching from v5 to v8. I have a letter dated 23/08/08 confirming change and v8 prices. Today I get a letter saying prices for v8 went up from 22/08/2008 (i.e. the day before I switched)!
Are the new V8 prices higher than the v5 prices now? If so, I'm going to make a formal complaint. Can they backdate prices after you have switched like this??

Now I'm even more confused... I've just looked online (under "switch your product" when logged in) and the prices for v8 agree with what I was told when I switched, not the prices in the letter I got this morning. What's going on?!

Mine are still the same, when I log in my account (and still cheaper than the online saver v5). In any case, don't you have 14 days to change your mind? from the email I received after the switch: "Please let us know within the next 14 days if you change your mind by calling us on 0845 059 9905*, or completing a switch back on the website if this is the first time you've changed your product."0 -
You need to call Eon to clarify your letter.
v5 was increased on 22.08.2008
v8 was created using the v5 prices prior to 22.08.2008 (or very very similar)
I for one have v8 from around 29.02.2008 at the lower prices and not aware of any increase yet.0 -
Right, I think I've worked out what has happened...
This letter doesn't actually mention v8, I just assumed it was referring to that because that's the tariff I'm on. So the letter probably refers to v5 but I've been sent the letter because the price increases affect me (albeit for one day!).
I have emailed them to clarify. Panic over, hopefullyProud to be a MoneySaver!
