I've got my daughter on Vodafone PAYG and want to switch over to Asda - I've got the Asda sim which is recognised by the phone, no problem.

If I want to port the number over from Voda, when I ask for the PAC, will they charge me?

    TIA

It's worth noting that if you port several numbers across to Asda they require each number to have a different PAC code. (Virgin initially provided me with the same PAC code for two different mobile numbers)

  • Hi,

I'm really not up to speed with mobile phones so please bare with me if this is a stupid question.

OK currently I'm on an Orange contract Talkshare 1, (2 phones-1 bill per month) this includes X amount of free calls per month that was great for us at the time however since our business has gone bust these call minutes are not being used so I'm wasting £40+ per month. Due to the business going the account is also in arrears so outgoing calls are blocked.

Can I just go into ASDA get a couple of sim cards and stick them into the phones and be on PAYG with ASDA (I'll write to Orange to cancel of course, plus try to arrange some sort of payment plan to address the money owed) or is it more complicated than that ? Not too fussed about keeping the existing numbers.

    Thx

Yes you can go and buy a couple of SIMs from Asda. However, you need to check that the handset is not locked onto to Oranges' network. You can do this by putting a SIM from another network in the handset and if it works ok then you'll be fine to go and get the Asda SIM card. If the handset is locked you may need to get it unlocked or you may be able to unlock it yourself, depending on the model.

2.3 If you owe us any money and this is not paid when it should have been paid, we may
recover this from any credit balance on your top-up account held by us or from any
debit or credit card details of which you have given us. We may charge you interest daily...' - how do I end up owing them if the call is cut off?

    And this:'
    We are entitled to charge
your new network provider with the reasonable cost of porting your number to the new
network provider. Please note that all top-ups are nonrefundable, and that any unused
credits will not be repaid to you if you decide to stop using the Services' - what are they on about?
    sorry for the long post.
If you make calls when overseas the amount may not be deducted immediately and therefore you could possibly run over the amount of time that you paid for. When you top up again, that amount would be deducted.

If you decide to leave, they're saying that they could/may charge you for the porting of the number. That doesn't mean that they do charge.

Top ups are non refundable - ie if you dont want to use Adsa or decide to port your number to another network, then any remaining credit on your account is lost.

My husband tried to switch his mobile number from his old network to Asda mobile. He had to phone Asda three times and was given three different sets of instructions of what to do. During the third phone call, he was told that he could no longer keep his old number because it had been given to someone else (the PAC code had not expired). He's so fed up now that he's going with IKEA.

the old number being given to someone else isn't Asdas fault but his old networks. Seems a bit of dubious logic

It just standard T&C for faults etc.
ASDA take off all calls, including roaming calls in real time.

They are just saying that they may charge for porting, but they don't

This issue has rarely anything to do with calls, but Premium Texts, which can sometimes be approved by the network leaving a negative customer balance (say if they are actually on a call). 'Real-time' billing isn't quite what it seems as there is a certain lag between the credit running low and the phone being blocked to outgoing calls - unless the mobile is active on a call, in this case the s/w is good at calculating when to end the call. Incoming calls are of course not affected.

I was considering the fact that roaming calls don't always appear immediately on the billing. Something to do with the partner network, apparently, taking their time to pass information back to the UK network.
