I can't really see why anyone would stick with the old Virgin PAYG tariff rather than their Daily Bonus tariff.

From what I can see, the only advantage that the old PAYG tariff has is lower minimum call charge (until 13/10/08), and slightly lower text charges to other Virgin Mobiles (but slightly more for other networks!) - but the free minutes on the Daily Bonus tariff, together with the more generous cross-network calls (ie not charged at a premium rate) would surely more than compensate for the fact. ;)

If you wanted to reduce the cost of your mobile calls you could dial one of the many 0871 UK Mobile access numbers for 15p a minute from your Virgin PAYG Mobile.

Also if you only used your Virgin Phone for the occassional short call to a 01/02/03 number you could use an 0845 access number for 10p a minute.

Calls after first 5 minutes are 5p per minute on PAYG tariff as opposed to 15p per minute on Daily Bonus after the free bonus minutes. If you make more then 13 minutes of calls in a day then the PAYG tariff works out cheaper unless you are calling other mobile networks.

Yeah, good point. Obviously, it's down to the individual to work out which tariff is best for them rather than trying to generalise as to which is best. ;) Either way, the Asda tariff looks to be a good deal, but I'm a little sceptical as to how long it will be before the charges start to creep up to a level which makes them look far less competitive.

I ordered an Asda sim card over the internet a week ago and nothing has arrived. Does anyone know how long they take to despatch these?

Mine arrived a couple of days after I ordered (despite receiving an email telling me they were out of stock and would be delayed).

Thanks, I will get onto them. I wasn't sure if the site had said 'delivery within 7 or 28 days, or something.

Mine also arrived within two days - in fact, they arrived the very same morning that I had received an e-mail advising me that they had been despatched!

  • I too ordered a sim over a week ago and have received nothing yet. I E-mailed them 2 days ago about it but still waiting for them to reply.

I am already on Vodafone PAYG. If I got an ASDA sim, would I just need to switch the sims or do I still need to get the phone unlocked first?

If I remember correctly, you CAN use an Asda SIM in a Vodafone-locked phone, but not vice versa (ie you CAN'T use a Vodafone SIM in an Asda-locked phone). ;)
