does anyone know if i put an asda sim card into my phone which was locked to vodafone, (as i want to change to asda for cheaper PAYG calls,) would i be able to use same number without doing anything else or would i have to arrange PAC code to be transferred ?

You'd have to go the PAC code route.

  • In September 2009 Virgin Mobile are raising the cost of PAYG and low user rates from 15p for the first 2 minutes daily and 5p thereafter to 20p per minute - an increase of 300% for the later minutes. This ASDA deal is too good to miss - thanks for telling us about it!

Nearly correct, it is/was the first 5 minutes, not 2.

I thought pretty much all topups were now done electronically, but I assume you were trying to buy the old-style "scratch 'n' sniff" cards.

Probably best to get swipe cards so you don't have to worry about them running out of the manual scratch cards. I wouldn't be surprised if the scratch cards are phased out soon (if they haven't started doing so already). ;)

With asda mobile you could only top up in an ASDS store so if you went on holiday ran out of credit and no asda store then you was in troubble now they have top up cards but you can't top up at cash machines with Tesco mobile you can and some top up loactions don't accept asds top up cards
  • Yes because if I put a virgin sim card in my nokia N95 on the main screen it says T Mobile as Virgin use T Mobile network

My calls are cheaper than ASDA I am on the Tesco Mobile staff tarrid for staff only it is cheaper than ASDA and when I top up £20 they give you £40 free £60 top up for only £20
Ok the free top up expires after a month but means I can browse the net free on my phone even it you top up £10 you get £10 free great deal and you can top up at any cash machine my local newsagents won't accept asda top up cards

OK asda calls are cheap but sometimes the deals the other operators offer can be better why pay 4p for a text when you could get free texts on another network

The only reason asda started a mobile network is because tesco did asds always copy what tesco do if tesco do somthing everyone likes then asda have to do it

You seem to be some sort of Tesco apologist.:o

You're completely wrong about where you can top up Asda mobiles also

Three easy ways to top-up your ASDA mobile

You can add credit to your mobile phone at ASDA and at over 85,000 participating stores where you see the top-up logo. With ASDA mobile you will probably find yourself topping up a little less often than other people! But when you need to, you'll find that there are 3 easy ways to do this.
    • 1. Top-up cards

Simply hand over your ASDA mobile top-up card (pick one up at the check-out) and the amount of credit you ask for will be added to your ASDA mobile automatically.

However please ensure you have linked the top-up card to your mobile phone!

      2. Top-up Vouchers

If don’t have a top-up card to hand you can ask for a top-up voucher instead. Then call the Helpline FREE on 2732 to put the credit on your ASDA mobile (available at participating outlets).
    • 3. Top-up with your Credit or Debit Card

Register your credit or debit card by calling our Helpline on 2732. You only need to do this once. From then on just call Top up from your contacts list on your ASDA mobile (or dial 2732) and follow the simple steps to add credit to your phone automatically.
  • Just bought a Vodafone 527 PAYG phone from a Vodafone shop £25 + £10 call credit. It works just fine:j with an ASDA sim from my old unlocked phone which succumbed to the washing machine.
Once Vodafone £10 credit is used up I'll be putting the ASDA sim back in...
