Hi guys, I tried applying for a phone contract today at vodafone. However, my application was declined. They kept my photocopied passport picture page and a copy of my bank statement with all my details on it. Are they allowed to do that, and may I request to have it back? Is it common practice for the network company to keep your details like that? I am just rather concerned, as the guys working there seemed rather dodgy. Would be great to get a reply soon so that I can pop in tomorrow to get it back!
Why not go in and ask them?

All sorted - no argument about refunding the deposit & very apologetic.0 -
Good to hear you got it sorted. Always best to try the gentle approach first before storming in.

However, all the companies who I requested quotes from were aware that this was an urgent situation, having been put in the position of needing to source alternative worktops after the kitchen company I ordered from turned out to be a bunch of cowboys. Were it my decision alone, I would be happy to wait and go with the arrangement already agreed. However, the whole fiasco that has led up to this point has been incredibly stressful and my partner, who is at his wit's end, just wants to get our kitchen finished off as quickly as we possibly can at this stage.
So I'm sorry if you think badly of me, but I didn't ask to be put in this situation in the first place!:(
Just an update on this. I decided not to cancel the original worktop fitters in the end. They've since been and done the job and a very good job they did too. Very pleased!0 -
Hi. I have bought 'real touch' wedding flowers online for my wedding. They have arrived this week with 2.5 weeks to go! They are broken, falling apart and very poorly made. Vendor refusing refund saying the 7 day change of mind clause for internet purchases is void for special and made to order items. Surely they can't get away with this i spent almost £200.
Can someone please tell me where i stand? Thanks0 -

Hi, I was just wondering for some advice about my laptop bought from PC World (who I find have been having a bad reputation for themselves on these forums)
Basically I bought my laptop 15/07/07, however I took out the PC Performance agreement at the time of purchase and am mighty glad I did. I had the laptop just over a year when the screen went black and wasn't able to get anything up and running. I sent it away to their repair team (Tech Guys) and their invoice dated 11/11/08 stated that the mainboard was replaced.
Just under a month (5/12/08) later the laptop had the same problem again, so sent away for repair, mainboard was replaced again and they also replaced the lcd screen because when I had the laptop returned from the first repair, I noticed the screen had become loose slightly.
Near enough a year goes by and once again yep you guess, same problem, same repair. Now at the time of the second repair, I was told at PC world that if it goes wrong 3 times within a year I could make a claim, however, according to their engineer dates, (18/11/08) it was just over the year and the policy about 3 times within a year did not apply in any case.
10th March 2010, and fault comes back again, I had it back for one night when the laptop would switch off when I would switch it on. So took it back to PC World again and they sent it away for me again, another mainboard replaced.
29th March 2010 same story again, the maonboard was replaced and the lcd back cover (from the 10th March repair the lid clasp did not close properly) Now my laptop is getting more and more scratched and the compartments on the bottom of the laptop had been broken where someone had tighened some screws too tight and scratches by the mousepad.
26th May 2010, this is now the 6th time it's gone faulty with the same problem. I ring PC World Customer Services to complain telling them that it is unacceptable that my laptop has been sent away 5 previous times already and I'm still getting problems with it and it always being the same fault. After being passed from pillar to post a few times, I eventually get someone to put my laptop through to be assessed to be written off for me to get vouchers back to purchase a new laptop. I was also told they would notify me their decision before doing anything.
I got my laptop back last Monday 28th June, no phonecall beforehand telling what had gone on with my laptop, just a text saying that DPD were going to deliver my laptop back. Clearly the assessment thought better of it to repair my laptop again, and I had a Quality Assurance form from the tech guys repair centre stating their attention to detail. That was a complete joke. They ticked a box saying all screws were present, when there are now 2 screws missing from the lcd screen. Didn't look very hard did they?
So now yesterday 4th July, my laptop rediscovered the same fault. I tried ringing customer services, they weren't there. So I rang today asking them for it to be assessed again as it has the same fault, it is now the 7th time my laptop has had the same fault and I am not happy with their repairs. The guy at customer services stated that normally they wouldn't write the laptop off unless the laptop has been out of my hands for a total of 6 weeks with a period of it being back for 1 week. However because I rang back today, he said the clock would reset itself and so my 6 week 'faulty' period would start again from now. He said had I rang the technical line yesterday it would have been within that week period, however when I had the trouble on the 6th faulty time, the tech line couldn't authorise it going in to be written off. (I forgot to mention this to the guy at this time) So now my laptop has been booked in to be assessed to be written off again, but I'm guessing the likelihood is close to nil, and they will repair it anyway without letting me know again.
As you can see I am not happy with this situation, is there anything I can argue against with PC World. I don't think they understand that they have been paying way to much to repair my laptop as they have installed 6 mainboards now, another one to come at a cost (from their invoice, what I would have paid had I not had the performance agreement) of around £180. Totally a whopping £1260 just for the mainboards..... My laptop only cost £600, 3 years ago!
Any advice greatly received

Write to PCW, recorded delivery, both to the store you are dealing with and to their head office. Give them the full details and point out that there is an inherent with your laptop and you want it replaced with a new one. Tell them that if they do not respond positively within 7 working days you will go to the Small Claims Court.

Thanks for replying Art, is there any way that the Sale of Goods Act corresponds to this problem for me to note down in my letter?
Also, I have never dealt with anything to do with the small claims court before, could you tell me a little about it (incase it comes to that! - would it come to that??)0 -
Hello, Not sure this the right place for this but here goes :-
I have recently experienced two instances of store 'refund' cards being refused because they were out of date. I am not disputing that in on the back of the card it clearly states that the card will expire within xxx months , Although in smaller writing than that. the sales asssitant couldn't actually read it either.
1) do I have any legal case
2) Is it worth writing a letter to the company(s) in your opinion ?
thanks for any advice or your experiences with similar.
