Thanks for reply Cusdtardy, one was 6 months , one was 2 years, yes I know !!! I kept going to the shop but couldn't find anything I liked !! If I had know it was going to expire I could have bought anything and taken it back and got a 'new' card . But just thought it was like a store card with some credit on. They don't bother telling you when they give them out. such is life, I did do a search but found nothing. Thanks for your time, missionman

    Hi all,
I bought an American fridge freezer from currys online in December 2009. Delivery came in January 2010. It was delivered with scrapes and dents. I complained to currys and they informed me to get in touch with LG -who promptly posted out new handles and I received ten percent off the price for the few nicks in the bodywork.
I read all the instructions while leaving it to settle and turning it on and then discovered that the ice making compartment wasnt making ice. Off I go to telephone LG who immediately got a local repair company out to fix it......so far in 6 months the valve was replaced, the main circuit board replaced, the ice making dispenser motor has been replaced......and it still didnt work.
The repair company came out at least 6 times for this which hasnt been resolved.
The fridge freezer has now been deemed beyond economical repair by LG.This letter I have just received states that

    "we have authorised an exchange"
"You are entitled to a replacement of the same or equivalent LG product"
"The retailer will either arrange a replacement product for you,on behalf of LG UK or discuss alternative remedies with you;in accordance with its sale policy"

I refuse to go through the hastle of getting the same product-seeing it is 6 months later and not fit for its purpose and unsatisfactory quality.

Have I got a choice of replacement, refund-which Currys state Im not entitled to-or an exchange of goods to the value of what I paid-any other brand that Currys sell?

Thank you for reading and any advice greatly appreciated.

Firstly, you were wrong in allowing Curry's to pass the problem to LG. You do not have a contract with LG but you do with Curry's.

Send a letter to the store where you bought the fridge with a copy to Curry's head office. Send recorded delivery. Outline all the facts say that the unit is not fit for purpose and not of merchantable quality and you want a refund or a replacement with another unit from their range.

Tell them you expect a positive reply within 7 working days or you will go to the Small Claims Court without further contact with them.

    Regards,
    Art.

    .

It has been a requirement of "satisfactory quality" since 1994...

Thank you all that replied with advice

I didnt have a choice with allowing currys to pass the problem on to LG.

When you have bought an item from currys-online-have an issue-then you go through a telephone system that asks you questions about the appliance. You choose different options eg if its something in the kitchen press 2 and ...if its LG press 3....etc.

So you are placed through to LG tech guys.

I tried to go through the main switchboard to see if currys would help me directly but they said its not up to them after sales-and give you the number for LG anyway!

I did mention to currys that its their responsibility to make sure that the item I bought is working and in satisfactory working condition-but all I got was here is LGs number.

The advantage that currys have got is that once they have delivered it-damaged or not-they fob their responsibility off to the manufacturer and get away with it.

This is what happened in my case.

The option that LG have given me "you either can have a replacement or another LG product",then I have the right to say-nope.....I want a different make and model?

OR if I want a refund?

currys have clearly said to me via telephone, that I am not entitled to a refund.

    Letter getting draughted now.

Thank you again to all replies.
  • If I buy a jacket in a sale then find out a week later it has gone down in price can I claim the difference or do I have to return it and buy it back?

If it had gone up in price would you pay the difference?

In the US certain stores do this. Banana Republic, The Gap and Old Navy are ones that I know of. They give you two weeks to bring the receipt back in and they will check to see if the price has gone down. I once got a dressing gown which had been reduced from $30 down to $1.96 and they gave me the difference back. Gap and Banana Republic are both here so wonder if they do the same.
  • I brought a second hand engine and paid by credit card from a reputable company for my car due to the current engine failing. I was told by the company that all engines are seen running before they extract them from the donor car and are therefore in working order with no faults. They also offer a 3 month guarantee against any problems.

The garage have just rang to say that they have fitted the new engine and have found a fault with the sump (it's cracked). They have had the engine approx 7 days from delivery. I have looked at the engine and there is a crack which has only become noticeable after running.

So i rang the company i brought it off and they have said that they won't do anything about it as the engine could have been dropped by the garage causing the fault.

Normally on these things i kind of know what to do next, but i am a bit stumped. The engine may have come with the fault, it may have been dropped by the delivery company or it may have been dropped by the garage.

    Any ideas????
