Just a quick update - after a few more emails and threatening to send a letter to Sir Terry they backed down and issued me a full refund.

    Thanks again

That's good news. Glad to hear you got a good result.

  • Hi
i have recently had an issue with Marks and Spencers. I recently found a credit voucher in my purse (they now look exactly like a receipt and I was just about to throw it out) I went to use it but I was told that I was unable to because it had expired a month before. Apparantly Marks now have a policy where credit vouchers are only valid for a year. Can this be right it is my money after all. Marks and Spencer have had their goods back why shouldn't I be able to get my money back to use in store.

I do feel that the new system confuses customers and many are likely to lose or throw out the vouchers thinking that they are old receipts. Since it has happened I have asked many friends about it and many confirm that they have either lost or thrown away these credit vouchers thinking they were receipts. Even one of the assistants in the store said that she had lost a couple of credit vouchers and she hoped that I would take it further. She also felt that Marks by switching to a credit voucher that looks exactly like a receipt were probably profiting substantially.

Can I do anything? Their customer service department were very unhelpful and refused to consider allowing me to use the voucher

If their rules are one year validity then that's it legally so long at the policy is clear. Your only chance is to write to Start Rose their MD and see if he has pity on you.

Why did they issue you with a credit and not a refund?

  • A Internet based UK company has taken £180 for an annual subscription from our bank account. We do not want (and did not ask for) the subscription. They now want to charge a cancellation fee (£80). The bank says the money has transfered and the account is now overdrawn (charges coming). I have written a firm letter (e-mail) asking them to refund immediately) What do I do next?
  • Update... they say we entered a 'free trial' and because we didn't cancel we have agreed to the subscription...hense the £80 cancellation fee! The bank can't stop the payment (even though it is still 'pending') and will only 'help' us once the transaction is complete. I am pulling out the last of my hair!

P.S. the free trial was 'pants' so only tried it the once and never went back to their site again.
  • Took my curtains to dry cleaners to be cleaned, but when I collected them they have unevenly shrunk, but the curtain more than the linings, so at points there is 4" of lining showing at the bottom. Before I took them in, I did sign to accept there 'may be a small degree of shrinkage', but did not expect it to be this much, uneven or different amounts than the lining. The cleaners have pointed to this, but have offered to try to relax the fibres on a steam table.

If this fails is there anything I can do? Are they liable?

This depends on the degree of shrinkage. Let them try to remedy the fault for you first and see what you think.

Failing that dry cleaners have an appeals procedure that you can ask to investigate your complaint.

The retailer should have the details as it's something he pays to provide. As to the result I really can't say as I haven't heard any of their outcomes. If all else fails you can go to the Small Claims Court.

I bought my Son an X-Box 16 months ago from Amazon.co.uk for £275.00.

It now seems that there is a hardware failure and we have been advised that we must return the X-Box to microsoft for them to sort it out.

We have not yet been advised whether they will repair this for free and I just wondered what your thoughts are ?

    Cheers
    Matt
