After reading on the Grabbit board about Dyson Vaccuum cleaners £108 for Debenhams online I decided to order one. You had to enter 3 codes to get it for this price, which I did, and their system appeared to accept them. I got a screen print and order confirmation email showing the price of £108 including delivery. A number of people on that thread had since posted that despite having the same messages that I had (i.e. £108 confirmed) that they have been charged more. I rang my CC company to check how much I had been charged and they confirmed £120. Can Debenhams do this? Can they agree to £108 and then charge me more without informing me?

This is very unethical of Debenhams and certainly something that you should take up with them at the highest level.
I assume the confirmation you received was an automated one and as such the have the right to withdraw the original price if they want before they finally send you the goods.
I would also be talking to my credit card company. You authorised £108 and they have paid Debenhams £120.

Thanks for the response. Yes it was an automated confirmation and I think it die mention something about it not being a final agreement or some such. I could accet it if they had sent me an email saying something like 'actualy we don't accept the codes you have used and the price will be £120. Do you wish to proceed with the purchase?'. But to do it without informing me is, as you say, unethical0 -
I have spoken to my Credit Card company and they say that they pay whatever the merchant asks for! When I then pointed out that I therefore have no control over my card at all he basically replied 'Yes, that's right'.
Very worrying.0 -

yes, it is worrying. I wonder that would happen if some rogue company asked for a lot more money than you authorised. Who would be responsible? I don't think the card company could avoid liability.

my younger brother bought me a computer game for Christmas my PSP from a private seller on PlayTrade from play.com. when it arrived though, it was the right game, but for the Nintendo DS not the PSP.
have left poor comment with the seller asking for the correct item, saying we'd be happy to send back the Nintendo version. They replied asking for details, which we gave, but nothing more has come from this.
i know my right is to get the game i ordered or my money back, but what use is this knowldge if they no longer reply to messages?
any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated!0 -

Sounds like you purchased this on ebay. If so use their complaints procedure which is very good.
If it wasn't an ebay purchase let us know the details.

In August 07 i bought a leather reclining settee and chair ( very heavy )from a local company selling off bankrupt stock - they`re still selling the stuff off.Anyway the other week we noticed the chair had developed a fault, some wood on the frame had split. I rang the company yesterday and was told they could`nt do anything about it because i bought `sold as seen`. I pointed out to them that there was no way i could have seen that because apart from anything else i could`nt even move the chair, it was too heavy, so i could`nt lift it up to look underneath and even if i could i would`nt have spotted the fault. They said they could`nt help me.I told them i did`nt want a full refund, i like the items ,just for them to get someone to fix it for me.
Surely after 5 months i have some rights?
Can someone advice please?

Write a recorded delivery letter to the retailer. State that you reject the goods as not being of merchantable quality as stated under the Sale of Goods Act. Tell them what you want from them ( a repair, you say). Finish by saying if they don't deal with the matter within 10 days you will go to the Small Claims Court.

Aldi's 30 day trip wire: I paid £150 for an HDD/DVD Recorder on the 25th November but when I tried to return it on the 7th of January it was too late. They refused to touch it. Unless there is a fault, Aldi is not interested. They keep a very low profile. The 0871 helpline number only takes you to the repairer/manufacturer, not to Aldi Customer Services (which probably doesn't exist). There are no addresses for you to write to. In a word, after 30 days you're on your own. So, I'm going to do what Art would probably recommend, and write to the UK Managing Director, Paul Foley, Aldi Limited, Holly Lane, Atherstone, Warwickshire, CV9 2SQ, asking for a refund (because the item is not as advertised). Recorded delivery, Sale of Goods, Small Claim Court, 14days, copy to local branch manager, etc. And before you all say it, yes I was pretty stupid to leave checking it until Xmas.0
