  • Update on o2 Retentions and possibilities of Iphone 3GS Refurbs. I have just spoken to Annette who was incredibly helpful.

She didn't say anything about the Iphone Refurbs not being available to customers through retentions anymore, but advised to keep calling back regularly to see if there's any in stock. But she admitted herself that it's been several weeks since they've had any, so they may be due some soon. She even checked to see if they had a delivery date on the system, but there was nothing (but said sometimes they receive no notice or if any, 24 hours). I asked if there was a particular day in the week they receive deliveries, but she said they could receive multiple deliveries per week on any day!

Hope that's helpful to someone, I guess we're just going to have to keep trying!

I wish they would get there story straight ! Having spoke to retentions a number of times this week, some of the advisors are saying they aren't having the phones back and others confirming that they will, but don't know when. The lady I spoke today said they hadn't had them in for 3 months now......I think it was just over 4 weeks looking at prior posts, then tried to offer me the standard iphone tariff . Thanks for your update...most helpful.

I myself have returned one after 2 weeks so infact you are wrong. Can't beat experience :D

There is a difference here between what companies are legally obliged under DSR and what their policy on the matter is...

Tesco's clearly have a pretty decent policy on this sort of thing and should be commended for being so flexible in that regard.

You might have returned one, but that is irrelevant, the point which is under discussion is if there is a legal statutory right of return.

Any retailer can have additional terms of return, but there is no such thing as:

"all contracts have a cooling of period usually 2 weeks where you can returned the phone regardless if its been used".

This statement is wrong, and that is what was discussed, you supplied an incorrect assertion that could make someone look pretty stupid in a branch of a retailer when they tried to assert this "right".

Why not have a read through the relevant page at the CAB website http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/your_world/communications/mobile_phones.htm
You cannot return your phone or cancel the contract, just because you have changed your mind or found a cheaper deal, unless your contract allows you to do this. Check to see if your contract gives you a right to cancel. If it does, the mobile phone company may charge you to do this – details should be in your contract.

"then you need to know about the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000.
The key features of the regulations are:
    • you must give consumers clear information including details of the goods or services offered, delivery arrangements and payment, the supplier's details and the consumer's cancellation right before they buy (known as prior information)
    • you must also provide this information in writing
    • the consumer has a cooling-off period of seven working days."

Not a problem, Darrenb2410! Best to share what information we have at times like this, isn't it?

Speaking of which, I rang o2 Retentions again this morning as (seen on my other thread) my C905 has broken this morning. Spoke to a really helpful advisor called Sean. There are no 3GS Refurbs in today, but he said they were due some in. There wasn't a delivery date on the system, but he estimates sometime early next week. :)

To give me some kind of indication of what sort of deal I could get, he quoted me a deal for the I-Phone 3G (8Gb). 18 month contract, free phone, 600 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data for £30 a month (£5 off for loyalty discount). Which, looking at the o2 website, isn't a bad deal! However, considering the up-coming updates that are not available for the 3G, I'm holding on for the 3GS.

I will believe it when I see it !! Its getting quite frustrating ringing everyday, so I hate to think how many calls the retentions team are taking on this ! By the way, I was offered a 3g on 18months for 27 pounds - 500 mins, unlimted txt and internet. Will still wait on a 3gs though!

My phone just arrived!! it's currently charging up. Anyone can give me quick tips on what/how to do first? It's just phone, no new SIM (O2) so I take it that I just put my current SIM in and connect it to Itunes and that is it?
    Any good apps recommendations?
    Thanks
  • I want to get an iphone and have decided that I can save most money if I buy an unlocked Iphone on ebay and then get one of the 15/month sim only deals... just wondering if anyone know's where these brand new 'officially unlocked' iphones come from and are they legit?

Looks like you can get one for around £450..
  • the 32 G 3Gs that is.

Some will be legitimate, some stolen and some are probably refurbs, but if you buy from a Power Seller are you should be OK. You will not be able to get insurance and you may have trouble with the warranty if you don't have a legitimate invoice. Don't get a jailbroken iPhone as that will invalidate your warranty. :(

The eBay route will only save you £15 over getting a 32GB handset (£405) and £20 a month one year contract from Tesco, that £15 will be wiped out by the double Clubcard points on the purchase and triple on your monthly tariff. Personally I'd rather go for Tesco who are highly unlikely to go bust!! :p

If anyone you know has any £5 off a £50 (or similar) spend Tesco vouchers they can be used against the handset, I got £9 off mine that way. :T
