Tesco twelve month deals are Martin's best buy in the article on the main board. :money: I worked out it will cost an average of £27 a month over two years for a 3GS 16GB if you switch to an O2 SIM only at 12 months and get a little cashback.

    1. There seems to be disagreement over whether the handset is locked, Tesco use the same network as 02 and some people say they are able to use 02 SIMs in the Tesco handset. You can certainly get it unlocked at the end of twelve months.

    2. After the twelve months is up you either carry on as you are and start paying for your data usage (expensive if you use it outside a lot, cheap if you mainly use WiFi) OR go onto a Tesco or 02 SIM only deal which again includes data. Bear in mind the phone is constantly linking to GPS and updating your e-mail so uses data even when the phone is idle.

    3. Don't bother with the 3G, IMO it is a false economy. The new software comes out in June and not all features will be supported on the 3G iPhone, my guess is the 2011 update will do even less for the 3G. By the time you are ready to get rid in, say, two years time the 3G handset will be four years old!! If you don't need a handset immediately you could wait until June for the new HD iPhone to come out, at which point the 3GS will be substantially cheaper and the 3G will no longer be manufactured (probably).

As we have only just decided we want the iphone, I think your right. Waiting until a new one comes out will make the 3Gs cheaper so may as well wait for that then see what deals there are to be had :D

    Thanks:)

I just rung O2 because I was always told (and confirmed when trying to upgrade online) that I cannot upgrade until the last month of the contract and I still have 4 mths to go on my Simplicity (I only spend £20 a month so I am not a priority customer), but I really need a new phone and have my heart set on the Iphone so I thought - hey, I give it a go.
Even though internet said I cannot upgrade, the guy said I can upgrade immediately and he is sending me the phone out.

I didn't get any deal on it (the typical 18mth £40 a mth, upfront £89, but can downgrade to £35 after 9mths), but I thought people might be interested if they have similar problem.

Thanks for bring Tesco Mobile to my attention. My current (normal phone) contract expires in June, so really keen on getting an iPhone. Tesco deal sounds really reasonable, providing they don't scrap the PAYG £15/month deal! Never considered Tesco, as O2 are the only provider that gives me a decent signal around my horses field (middle of nowhere).

Tesco run off the O2 network

When I got my iPhone from Tesco (in store) the member of staff said I could use the handset as much as I like for two weeks and still return it! Note that I do not have that in writing so you should check, but he said this right at the end when I'd already paid not in order to reel me in.

The slip of paper from 3 says you cannot return it if you use it.
