Eeeewwww @ Windows Mobile, just wrong in so many ways. :p You are a rare breed d123, someone who might be able to have a rational debate over the relative positives and negatives of Apple v. HTC ...

  • Thanks for the brief summary of iPhone 3GS vs. HTC, Firefox! I was browsing various pay-monthly mobiles last night and that had caught my eye - but Windows Mobile?!?! No thank you!

nicknack, I had a nasty feeling that would be the case, especially with a product that is in so much demand. Fingers crossed they get some more refurbs in soon!

May give o2 Retentions another call today, see if there's any joy with weekend staff.

I confess to not being an expert, but my understanding is that the iPhone is not the best for browsing the net, I believe the Android phones are superior and I *think* one of the HTC models has a larger screen. Certainly even with 3GS iPhone I find browsing pretty slow it's much quicker to search via apps, but coming out of one and into another is also slow without multitasking.

Few of the guys at work have HTC phones and I am not very impressed with them... I tried to avoid paying the price for Iphone and originaly went for the Nokia 5800 and now I hate it with passion - weird as I was always great Nokia supporter. I like the N97 but the price tag!! I like the Facebook application on the Iphone, my sister and my best friend have both Iphone and they swear by it..

But thinking about what you said before and maybe it makes sense going for the 3GS....

My brother adores his iPhone which helped sway me, he loves brands and gadgets but I am just not so he wouldn't have me waste money. Having bought the 3GS (wanted the Nike+) I feel it will last me at least two years with the updates as it is capable of so much. Maybe you could try both the 3G and 3GS before you decide??

I found the iLounge Buyers Guide 2010 helpful, page 86 has graphs of the resale price of iPhones and iPods (MSE is all about value for money after all!)

have you updated the firmware on your 5800? Nokia released a new firmware a few months ago that made quite a difference to use, it made the screen more sensitive and allowed kinetic scrolling (a bit like the iPhone, you swipe the screen and it continues scrolling after your finger stops), amongst other improvements.

I found it made quite a difference to using the 5800 last time I had one.

you can download the updater from http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/get-phone-update-now-with-pc and you can check your current firmware version at http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-update

Thank you for that. I will download it as adviced.
Though I think the screen is sensitive enough as it is. One of the things that annoy me. It constantly keep rotating.

Edit: Just tried it and it says no update available....hmmm.
    Thanks anyway
