    Thank you FF.

Bump - does that boost the bluetooth in general? I don't seem to have much luck of getting it working - my friend tried to send me a song and even though we connected after a while, when it came to the actual sending stuff her phone could not connect to mine (even though we were supposed to be already paired).

The iPhone will not send or receive vai BT Apple haven't supported 'object push' (the protocol in BT that allows files to be transferred).

They say this is done to prevent paid for content being shared.

iTunes will convert CD's and put them in the iPhone for you.

I can't remember the process, but I did a stack of them from my wife when she first got hers. Only takes a few minutes a disc.

Thanks! Am probably being really thick though but how does it work out to be cheaper? If it's £1040 for 24 months including the cost of the phone with Tescos and £840 for 24 months with o2 it looks like o2 are cheaper. Is that because it's not the equivalent handset?? Thanks again.

    E

    Ok:

    o2 - Refurbished 16GB iPhone 3G
    24 month contract @ 35
    Phone: Free!
    Total cost: £840

    Tesco mobile:
Tesco - BRAND NEW! 16GB iPhone 3GS (newer, more future proof than 3g)
    12 month contract @ £35
    £200 upfront cost for phone
    Total cost £620

Hope that makes it clearer :D

:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

When I get the Opera mini should I get rid off Safari?

Keep Safari as some websites look weird on Opera Mini, which hopefully they will fix with updates. Mini is sooooo much faster I think it is worth having both, I also like the 'speed dial' for sites that don't have an app. I am in the process of changing my laptop over from Firefox to Opera as that is faster too and then you can sync your bookmarks etc.

You can use Bluetooth for headsets just by turning it on (works best in airplane mode), also for text files, photos and contacts with different apps but not for music due to copyright. You may be able to send music by jailbreaking the handset but then you invalidate your warranty.

I just set up my hotmail account. But all the emails show as unopened even though I did open them on my PC? How do I sync so both my PC and my phone show the same things? Without having to connect it to computer all the time?

Are you aware that Hotmail is not very secure? I am wary of doing anything not secure on my iPhone in case I lose it and somebody gets past the PIN code. According to this you cannot sync Hotmail and iPhone
    http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/2008/10/11/how-to-set-up-hotmail-on-the-iphone/

I sync'd with Googlemail and I had to run a search on the net to find out how. IIRC I had to go into Googlemail via my laptop to do it ... my e-mail, contacts and calendar will now sync without connecting the cable, but many things won't sync wirelessly for security reasons. As you need to charge regularly it is not that much of a big deal, although I'd love a WiFi/ Bluetooth hub or dock.

IMO it was worth the hassle of changing over to Googlemail just to sync my contacts as it is brilliant to have all your postal addresses to hand (I keep Hotmail for spam and newsletters). You can send all your contacts from Hotmail to Googlemail and I think you can also redirect the actual e-mails but I don't know how.

As Jon01 said, you have to transfer all your music from CD to iTunes or from Windows Media Player to iTunes then sync to your iPhone. iTunes will covert everything automatically, you don't have to sit there pressing buttons. :T It took quite a while to do the whole lot.

I found getting the iPhone has made me change the way I do loads of stuff - changing my browser, my e-mail address AND my media player!!!! I did initially see that as a lot of hassle, but actually it's so much nicer to have everything working together. I am using more functions on this handset than ever before, not simply because it has more functions but because I can integrate everything, it is actually worth using the calendar as I only have to make a note in one place, whereas before you had to have a record on your phone and another one at home IYSWIM.

Tesco is only a twelve month contract, after that you get a SIM only deal from Tesco or O2 for £15-20 a month or even sell the handset and get a new contract. In March O2 just had offered £200 cashback on the £25 a month SIM only deals, if you are lucky the same thing will happen again this time next year.

Same with 02: if you take a twenty four month contract you are stuck with it, take an eighteen months and drop to a SIM only deal for the last six or sell the handset.

  • hi - following Martins top tip i went for the tesco iphone. a few words of warning - the call (can only buy over phone) takes about 45 minutes. then the payment details are taken - £200 plus one months rental £35 (i went for the 750 minutes deal). once you have been quoted this price and given your card details you are told that there will be a further £5 delivery charge! apparently it 'sometimes' gets added on, and they cant do anything about it. i was offered 500 tesco points, not much good to me. I know its only £5 but the principal annoys me - changing the price after taking my card details.
then they couldnt take the money from the bank their credit check methods triggered off the co-ops anti fraud thingy. so more phone calls. then i got text today telling me payment was refused. but it turns out it is a late text from yesterday.
not sure what i have let myself in for in terms of customer service ... fingers crossed! and yes, i am going to try to get that delivery charge reimbursed!
p.s. i forgot - i think they are putting 1000 points on a tesco club card for each customer (i havent got one, so it is virtual for now apparently). maybe martins team could check out hte whole offer and see what is actually in the deal?

I just rang Tesco and was told you get 1000 tesco points for singing up, double clubcard points on the purchase price and triple points on your monthly bills and free delivery.

It is a good deal but dont have the initial outlay of £320 for the phone unless im naughty and use my credit card : / either way I need a phone as mines been blocked where I lost it. Hopefully my insurance will p[ay out

OH got her iPhone in store, wouldn't budge on price of the phone nor the tariff. We can only get in store and through o2 as she will get a £125 friends and family credit.

We did get a free protective case thrown in worth £19.99 :p

    how much is she paying?
