I'm just hoping that the iAddicts will want the newest phone ASAP and so there'll be a veritable flood of the 3rd generation up for grabs but I don't know how soon o2 would let people have them to encourage take up of the newer model. A couple of months wait is doable but if it's autumn/winter that's a different matter not to mention how hard it'll be hard to go back to the old Blackberry having trialled the iPhone for a few days!

Sorry if I've missed this but if we've just upgraded to an old (refurb) iPhone 3G would it be worth waiting until the new one comes out to see if a load of refurbed 3GS's become available and upgrade then?

I'm concerned that on a 2 year contract (£25pm) the version we've got will be 4+ years old by the time we can upgrade.

Do not really understand your comment about just upgrading to a 3G? If you have upgraded then surely it is too late, or are you in your first week and haven't used the handset? I wouldn't personally go for a two year contract on any handset, how long is the warranty?

Definitely wouldn't get a two year contract on a refurb or a two year old handset. £25 a month for two years is £600, you could get SIM only for £15 a month = £360 so you are actually paying £240 for the 3G handset, which seems a bit steep for a second hand phone on upgrade.

  • I rang "3" today to pay off my current contract and request my PAC code as I want an iphone. Had been with them for 14 months out of an 18 month contract (£20 for 200 mins and unltd texts).

I told them why I was leaving, and they immediately offered me a brand new 16gb iphone 3GS, 200 mins, unltd texts and internet for £20 per month, and £129 for the phone.

I was quite surprised as I think that this is a really reasonable offer, the only problem being that its an 18 month contract beginning at the end of my current one, effectively tieing me in for 22 months.

SO, now I'm confused, should I grab the offer as it's really good despite being tied in for so long, or hold off for the new iphone, as the "leaked" photos today look really awesome?! Any opinions?

    Decisions!

ps - hi by the way, long time lurker, first time poster. site's great.

I would hold off to see what the new iphone brings - it could be worth considering for future proof-ness etc, plus it will be the latest and greatest.

Only downside is more cost! :(
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

Does anyone know what number I call to check my Tesco mobile balance? I've been checking for the last half an hour and the follwing numbers have brought nothing:

    Text BALANCE to 2112

    4455

    2702

I have an iPhone on a pay monthly contract

At this point I've decided to hold off for the new one, it's really only two months away. At the end of the day, if there's not much difference the 3gs will still be in plentiful supply :)

It looks as if the Tesco T&C I looked at didn't relate to the IPhone! Only their phones that come free with a monthly contract.

Sorry, yes, we're in the second week of the 14 day trial. I actually don't know if returning to the old phone is an option but I guess it must be.

Thanks for the tip. I was planning on asking for a shorter contract so I'll use those figures to boost our case. The trouble is we can't really stretch to an upfront cost so although it's a false economy it might be that our only option is to get it on a longer contract. :(

"then you need to know about the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000.
The key features of the regulations are:
    • you must give consumers clear information including details of the goods or services offered, delivery arrangements and payment, the supplier's details and the consumer's cancellation right before they buy (known as prior information)
    • you must also provide this information in writing
    • the consumer has a cooling-off period of seven working days."

Got my iPhone today and I have a 14 day cooling off period! Ive had about 10 contracts that have all said this so . .
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.
