I rang "3" today to pay off my current contract and request my PAC code as I want an iphone. Had been with them for 14 months out of an 18 month contract (£20 for 200 mins and unltd texts).
I told them why I was leaving, and they immediately offered me a brand new 16gb iphone 3GS, 200 mins, unltd texts and internet for £20 per month, and £129 for the phone.
I was quite surprised as I think that this is a really reasonable offer, the only problem being that its an 18 month contract beginning at the end of my current one, effectively tieing me in for 22 months.
SO, now I'm confused, should I grab the offer as it's really good despite being tied in for so long, or hold off for the new iphone, as the "leaked" photos today look really awesome?! Any opinions?
Decisions!
ps - hi by the way, long time lurker, first time poster. site's great.
I didn't know that 3 offered the iphone -its not on their website. Are you sure?0 -
3 do offer iPhones - I rang them today requesting a cancellation and PAC.
I was offered 16GB 3GS on 18month contract (500 min, 3000 txts) for £43 p month and £99 upfront (total cost £873).
I said no way (I am currently on an £18 pm mix & match tariff).
The lady went off to talk to her manager to see what could be done and I was offered the same phone/terms for £23 p month and upfront cost of £459 (total cost £873).
What an insult to my intelligence!0 -

I am wondering whether to go for an alternative smart-phone, it has to be said - one that would be much more flexible in price than the iPhone. One in particular that has caught my eye is the HTC Desire, which o2 told me this afternoon is due to come in the 29th April, they will have prices/tariffs then (although I suspect they may still be quite high). However, I am wary of going with something that is brand new - I did that with my current phone (SE C905) and it had nothing but problems. I think maybe some research may be in order... Thoughts? Keep going for the iPhone or try something else?

I took a call today from 02 upgrades....my contract expires next week. I told them I wanted the 3gs on an 18month contract and discussed my constant ringing of retentions everyday for the last 6 weeks trying to track down a refurb phone.
The advisor obviously couldn't offer the refurb phone due to no stock, so when I said I was looking to leave to take the tesco deal, he offered to look at what 02 could do. To cut a long story short he offered me the 3gs 16 for £89, over 18 months at £40pm. I said thanks but no thanks as this was the standard deal, but he then went on to offer me 2 free bolt ons....200 minutes free and free 02 to 02. As two thirds of my calls are within the same network, this will save me loads of minutes and with the free 200 minute bolt on, will be in a position to come down two tariffs once 9 months are up.
So not such a good deal as the refurbs, but better than standard offer. I'm happy as I can stop calling 02 everyday, but also trade in my old Samsung and collect the £80 what Fone bank have offered.
Yes, I could have waited for the new iphone, but the 3gs will be far superior to my current Samsung 8910 and with the possibility of having to wait 2/3 months for the new iphone, I'm not sure whether the old phone will have lasted that long !
Just need to make sure that the free bolts are logged with 02 and new just crafty sales patter !!0 -
Hi,
I just noticed that O2 have taken their refurb iphone 3G off sale, i presume they must have sold out.0 -

Was offered the same deal which was rubbish - aparrently they will be offering the iphone to existing customers only but only in one month's time and at this inflated price. I'd have taken the deal offered at £129 plus £20 per month but doubt many will be offered this!!!0 -
I just called the O2 retentions line and they dont have the reboxed 3GS phones in stock. Gutted
I spoke to a girl Amy and she was really nice. Offered to call me back when they are in stock, but wont be until next week at the earliest. Plus said I can get it for as little as £25 per month. Will have a tariff built to suit my needs and then it would be discounted.
Really helpful. Will update you all on my progress0 -
That's some progress Philip. My plan is to ring again tonight (the 3rd time) and try to achieve one of three things:
1) reduce the term to 12 months
2) upgrade to a 3GS not a 3G
3) upgrade to either a 3GS or a HTC Desire when the iPhone 4 is out
After the rubbish I've been told so far I'll be amazed if I manage any of those!0 -

They have been out of stick since mid - March now. Having rung everyday, for 6 weeks, I bowed to the pressure and took a new iphone yesterday on a standard tariff, but with 2 free bolt ons. However, my contract and on-line account does not mention any reference to the free 200 mins or free 02-02 calls. Another call to customer services !! Has anyone else experienced this?0 -
Yep, both the 3G and 3GS are out of stock now.
B/c it's a bloomin' Apple the are unable to offer any of the three solutions I posted earlier and they don't know the contract deals for the HTC yet.
I've got around a week to decide if we take a gamble on sending the phone back and hoping that o2 can come up with something or maybe even take up the HTC Desire offered elsewhere. The trouble is the main site offering it is Mobile Phones Direct and they don't exactly have the best reputation... Has anyone here used them?0
