Thanks for the tip. I was planning on asking for a shorter contract so I'll use those figures to boost our case. The trouble is we can't really stretch to an upfront cost so although it's a false economy it might be that our only option is to get it on a longer contract.
Does it have to be an iPhone? There are some pretty amazing alternative Smartphones with similarly intuitive operating systems. Apple are highly inflexible about prices whereas the others are not so you could easily find a free handset that is newer and faster than the 3G.Got my iPhone today and I have a 14 day cooling off period! Ive had about 10 contracts that have all said this so . .
The law is still seven days, as has already been said if an individual company wishes to provide longer then great. All we are saying is nobody should rely on 14 days without checking their paperwork.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
the law states many things but that doesnt mean companies stick to it or go beyond it. I was just stating the facts regardless of the law companies still allow 14 days. True nobody should rely on it but so far I have found that Tesco, O2, Vodafone, Carphone Warehouse, Phones4u, Dialaphone all have 14 daysWins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0

Oh, it might be worth mentioning that they threw in 2 tickets to a gig at the o2 arena, a few options were available.0 -
Rang o2 retentions this afternoon, and again no joy with the refurb 3GS. The woman I spoke to said they were few and far between, but no mention of them not coming in anymore.
I am wondering whether to go for an alternative smart-phone, it has to be said - one that would be much more flexible in price than the iPhone. One in particular that has caught my eye is the HTC Desire, which o2 told me this afternoon is due to come in the 29th April, they will have prices/tariffs then (although I suspect they may still be quite high). However, I am wary of going with something that is brand new - I did that with my current phone (SE C905) and it had nothing but problems. I think maybe some research may be in order... Thoughts? Keep going for the iPhone or try something else?

A good alternative to the iPhone is a Nokia X6.
In summer to coincide with the possible launch of the 4G iPhone will be the Nokia N8 which is rumoured to have a 12 million pixel camera.0 -

I ended up going for a HTC desire (on tmobile) as I just couldnt get the deal I was happy to pay for on an Iphone, its been great and my two eldest kids now both want one instead of an Iphone. I know a few people have sold their Iphone to buy a HTc too.0 -

It really is a personal decision. The drawbacks to the iPhone that are always touted do not bother me - I am not a photo fiend, do not mind charging daily, like the sturdiness (closed case), multitasking is coming soon anyway.
For me the clincher was the inbuilt Nike+ sensor, along with the rumours of a Nike HRM - as Apple only release one iPhone per year, new software and accessories tend to be compatible with earlier models. Conversely some of the other smartphones are not getting promised software upgrades.
BUT that is me: only you know what features are important to you and whether Nokia or HTC can rise to that challenge as well as Apple. Maybe go into a phone store and play with both an iPhone 3GS and the HTC Desire?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
apologies if already covered earlier int he thread.
If you go via Go Mobile for the quidco on an Orange iphone, do you still get the paymant if its an upgrade to a current contract (no over) or does it have to be a brand new contract. tia0 -
It is only an upgrade if you deal with Orange directly, then there is no cashback on an upgrade. You can give notice on the old contract and then start a new one, if there is overlap some networks will port your number from one contract to another. Why would you want to stay with Orange if it is not an official upgrade? They are not the cheapest for an iPhone.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Well, 1&1/2 phone calls later and I'm no further forward.
I really thought I was getting somewhere with the first guy I spoke to. I mentioned that the HTC Desire (rated as at least as good as the iPhone 3Gs) was available for £25 on other networks and pointed out the cost issues mentioned earlier. He said that the HTC wasn't available with them yet which was a good thing as it put them at a disadvantage. He went off to see what he could do but after about 5 minutes someone else picked up the line as if it was a brand new call.
She was much less helpful and refused to talk until I send the phone back. Apparently "the system" won't let them even discuss the potential deals until I do and then I'll revert to a more expensive tariff (as the deal has run out on the old one) on a really old BBerry.:mad:
I now can't decide if it's worth the hassle. If I can reduce the tariff costs back to £25 then I might be able to stick with the old phone until the new style iPhones are out but there's no guarantee even then.
I think I'll just keep trying over the next few days to see if I can get back to Mr Helpful again (unless he was playing games last night...).0
