Folks can somebody just confirm it wouldn't be a problem to buy a PAYG iphone from Tesco, £450 then take out the current "£15 per month gets you 500 minutes and unlimited texts and data" on Tesco Mobile

there's no minimum term contract for this but over the course of 12 months it would only cost £450 + £180 = £630.

Also as it's a PAYG iphone does that mean it can be unlocked at anytime or does it have to remain on Tesco for 12 months?

To be honest it's the first scenario that i'm interested in just can't see what's wrong with it (just looks too good to be correct)

It's cheaper to get the Tesco one year contract: £320 for the handset (3GS 16GB) plus £20 a month = total £560. Double points on the purchase of the handset, triple points on the monthly tariff, half price magic numbers, O2 coverage. Can't see why you'd want to do PAYG for an extra £70??

You need to exhaust the O2 complaints process not go to an outside agency, you want the 3GS you were promised not to get out of the contract surely? IME recorded delivery letters are more effective than any other method of communication - I am the queen of (legitimate) complaints and have had a lot of free stuff over the years. :o

For one thing you can currently get the PAYG with 0% for 12 months

Secondly it would be contract free right from the off, minimum term 30 day contract so i wouldn't be tied into anything.

Will the new Tesco monthly sim deal work with a tesco bought PAYG iphone?

Purchase it from the Tesco Direct website and if you pay with a Tesco credit card, you get 12 months interest free credit.

If you don't have one I think you can apply for one to take advantage of the offer.

Currently, you get double Clubcard points and an extra 500 points and £10 credit on all Tesco PAYG phones over £30 and the iPhone is included.
Each point is worth 1p or 4p when exchanged for Clubcard Deals.

    Depends on usage requirements.
Even light users want to own an iPhone.

My OH has only topped up his PAYG iPhone once when he bought it in January.
He topped up £15 and still hasn't used it up yet.

After getting a £110 discount on the cost of the 16GB 3GS handset, getting a contract would have been a waste of money.

I was replying to Storrie who calculated £630 over the year for his PAYG needs, whereas the contract version is only £560 for the same period. See below:

You are tied in to paying off the credit card! There is no way you are going to make £70 in interest by having the £320 sat in a bank over twelve months, and that £70 extra on a £440 handset is equivalent to an APR of 16%. If you don't already have savings you'd have to set aside £53 each month for the PAYG version. OR you could just forget about it to the end of the year in which case you will be paying some extortionate interest rate, tho I *think* you still have to make minimum repayments each month and of course you have to top up to be able to use the phone ... What am I missing here?
