    Hi,
I took out Simplicity 12 mths tariff 8 mths ago from O2 (no phone) and now I would like to go for Iphone. The 8gb is good enough for me.

I believe I cannot upgrade until the last month of the contract? (that is what net is telling me). Is this right? I used to be able to upgrade 3 mths before the contract is out on Orange.

Or should I just buy the phone separately? O2 has it on PAYG for £349, so it works out nearly the same price as if I take the £35 a month contract for 18 mths (my current tariff is £20 - so the difference 18x£15=£270+£59 for Iphone. Though my current tariff has more minutes, but I don't use them all anyway)...
Or anyone managed to get it any cheaper (with the full warranties etc) somewhere?

hi all, i need some advice, i am on O2 and am due my early 3 month upgrade on friday and i really want an iphone, am i best to wait until the new one is released later this year and then get a better deal in the 3gs or just see what i can get out of them now, my contract is not up until 9th July but they will let me upgrade 3 months early

As a gold customer you can upgrade 3 months early as you already know. What you might not know.... you don't really have any pull to negotiate a better deal, they'll offer you a contract similar to that of a new customer.

So ideally your best to wait it out until you can speak to retentions. You never know, you might like the new iphone even more!
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

That itself will not invalidate any warranty, but if something happens to the phone you will have to quote the correct mobile number with the correct IMEI number.. They are paired in their system so if you call to say that something is not working they will ask you for the phone no and IMEI - if it doesn't fit together they won't deal with it any further... It is kind of for security reasons. To make sure that you are not claiming damage on phone that didn't come from them.

I used to have that on Orange at work, we had many PDAs and the guys kept swaping phones (don't ask me why) and I had to keep track of numbers&IMEI numbers constantly... It was a nighmare...

The above is not true in regard to Apple and iPhones. The warranty is with the handset, not the user. The handset is under warranty for 12 months regardless who is using it. If you have any problem call Apple and they will take care of it.

If you take it that way it's not true in regards of any product. Every single electronic item has to carry 12 mths warranty. However it is the hassle of dealing direct with manufacturer rather then the phone company that makes difference.
At least with Orange if something went wrong they sent me new phone the next day - and I just swaped them with the courier. Dealing with manufacturer means that you have to take it/send it there, wait for repair etc etc... days without a phone etc..

That is what I meant. O2 (any provider) will not deal with your claim if you give them IMEI number of a phone that you never bought of them.

    Hi there,

I'm currently with O2 and my current contract runs out the beginning of June. I definitely would like an iphone for my next mobile and am interested in the threads saying that you can use a different sim in an unlocked iphone.

If I bought a new iphone off ebay and got it unlocked (or if it was unlocked already), could I buy a new sim from any provider and use it in the new iphone from ebay?

I'm a bit confused as to whether it will work if I do it this way or not. Can anyone clarify things a bit?

    Thanks

but that isn't what is being discussed, we are talking about an o2 phone being used with another o2 sim, the proof of purchase is not being discussed.

And in fact, with regards the iPhone it is actually far easier to deal with Apple, walk into any Apple store and say "it's broken", and they resolve any warranty faults while you wait.

I know what you are saying, I am just saying what I experienced - all our phones were from Orange and all our SIMs were from Orange, but if the IMEI and number did not match that was the end of the story. They did not look beyond the SIM and IMEI match. You would get nowhere. Like beating your head against a brick wall.

If dealing with Apple is easier, then fair enough.

Warranty as such comes with product, not with SIM card. Either the woman on the phone talked rubbish or the OP misunderstood what kind of warranty is going to be lost (ie O2 will not take responsibility for phone not purchased with her SIM).

Anyone has any idea whether Tesco PAYG Iphone comes locked? I have O2 SIM. Any problems unlocking Iphone (ie will every corner shop do it like with other phones for £10)?

gulp... what have i started ;-) ... dare i say this... o2 sent me wrong phone (3g), my partner was going to get 3gS but was happy with 3G. So i said to woman at 02 well ill just out my sim in his phone and use that. She said no no no it will invalidate any warranty as its not your phone.

hope that clears things up... chances are o2 are telling a few porkies ...
