Think that is just showing 3G coverage judging by text in top right box?0 -
ok new member so apologies if i screw this up. i got Martin's email this morning and the i-phone sim deal looks fantastic (around £8 for 900 mins unlimited txts and internet) and was wondering if anyone knows where would be the best place to get an i-phone as i don't really want to pay £500 for one as am a student and whilst the advert now states that getting university funding is the easy part... after last year...lets just say getting the place was the easy part, getting the funding was the hard part.so i could do with the extra money ;P . would i be better buying a pay as you go and then inserting the new sim?if so has anybody done this and can recommend anything?
thanks x0 -

Ah yes, sorry, stand corrected!Typing too fast at work. The lime green bits with orange polka dots show 4G coverage... on that size of map.. good luck

Assuming you want a 3GS ....
What I am planning is Tesco £320 iPhone plus £20 a month one year contract (£560 over one year + £13 Clubcard points), then switch to a one year O2 SIMplicity contract (£20 a month + £100 cashback OR £25 a month + £150 cashback).
OR you could buy a Tesco PAYG handset (£440) sign up to O2 SIMplicity today (£25 a month + £200 cashback OR £20 a month + £120 cashback). Total cost first year £540 but your initial outlay is much higher and the cashback won't come through for at least three months. Double check my maths before signing up to anything please.
Obviously you could get a second hand iPhone off eBay and make that cheaper, it's up to you if you want to take the risk of getting a stolen, jailbroken (Apple will not repair) or faulty handset. Note also that eBay phones cannot be insured which may be important to you as a student.

Tesco pay as you go 3gs 16gb iphones are now £449. I also wouldnt trust ebay. I use ebay a lot but not for that amount of money. Not sure what paypal would cover if it all went wrong. He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever. :A0 -
Wait for the 4G (or iPhone HD I now see it being called). Which should be out June/July.
That will take the price point of the 3GS, the 3GS will drop to the price of the 3G (which will vanish).0 -
Ok, just dipping my toe in the world of iphones.
i'm currently on Orange Dolphin 30 and on average use 200mins and 400 texts a month. Currently on Sony Ericcson w980. I'm in an 18 month contract due to finish in June but am eligible for upgrade now.
On Orange I can get:
8gb iphone for £99 - 18 months - £35
600 mins
500 texts
unlimited data and wifi
or
8gb iphone free - 24 months - £35
600 mins
ultd texts, data and wi-fi
this is upgrading not through retentions although I have heard they are the same people!?. If I were to cancel my contract now it would cost £56.84 (I'm considering it to move to O2 where I can get 600mins, ultd texts, data, wi-fi for £40pm and £89 16gb handset)
£35 per month is within my budget but i'm really not keen on a 24 month contract and an 8gb seems pointless to me.
Any thoughts would be welcome, not sure whether to jack it all in and got for a free blackberry instead.
I'm finding it all abit overwhelming so any hand holding is much appreciated.0 -

The 8GB is the older 3G model, not the newer 3GS (16/32GB)...I don't think you've got good offers...0 -
