i can't wait to get my iphone 2mrw....!! only thing is i got told 300 mins and when i check it online it says 100?? so i've emailed the girl who put it through to check!
  • Think I'll phone tomorrow to see if I can get a 3gs. What did people say to get these deals? I'm thinking of saying "Been with you 2 years, no upgrade offered, handset unreliable, tesco and orange cheaper, will go to someone else if you don't give us a good iPhone deal"

    Do you think that'll work?
  • I finally got my iPhone reconditioned 3GS 16Gb (well, its with DHL at the moment) after chasing on a daily basis.

I did not trust the dates given by advisors or the promise to notify me when it was in stock again.

Bearing in mind this was a deal that was intended to incentivise my retention, I found this very frustrating and some of the advisors truly unhelpful.

The deal I negotiated was free iPhone, and a £4 discount on the monthly tariff for 24 months... £31 giving 600 minutes and unlimited txt/data... Looking at other deal achieved in the forum, I probably should have aimed for 18 months..
    Regards,
    SD

I started by saying that I was looking for the best possible deal for a refurb Iphone, and pointed out that I had been with O2 for a good few years. I didn't even have to refer to the cheaper Tesco package, but had that in reserve! I guess I was lucky to get a tremendously helpful & pleasant O2 rep, (Mark), but I also assume my record with O2 was taken into account as he referred to my average calls/month and text usage when suggesting a package. My total price is £504.01 (18 months at £28 and the phone cost me 1p!) which is cheaper than Tesco's price for the same phone at £560, and I keep my existing number with no hassle.

I just said I was going to be using the phone more and was interested in an iphone what deal could you do before I start to shop around?
That was the first time I called. Today was a case of "are the iphone refurbs in stock?" "they are, what deal can you do for me"

I think the staff in retentions know the score but if anyone refused to give you a deal I would just ring back and speak to someone else. However from my own experience everyone was very helpful and was happy to sort out a deal for me. One thing I would say and this is from twenty years experience of working in retail (not anymore thank God) a smile in your voice and having a bit of a laugh with the person on the other end of the line will go a long way to making sure you get the best deal possible.

Shame for me they wouldn't let me have a refurb 3gs because I am 'only' a PAYG customer. They wouldn't budge. Ah well worth the try.

Could you go for one of the simplicity tariffs and then try again in a month or two?
    Might be worth a try.

No joy as my contract is not up until November. They wanted to charge me £130 to end early (£20 a month contract but £15 loyalty discount so only paying £5 per month) even with a bit of discount. Offered a refurb Iphone at £89!!

So not viable at the moment - I've got to wait for a few more months til my contract settlement is smaller. Or I could just get an iphone from somebody else and a new number ????

why not just wait 3 months until the new iPhone is out?

I think this is going to be my best option and worth going for.

Be polite, but know what you want <<< best advice you can get.

Have stuff in reserve, i.e. mention the other deals you've seen and relate it to the fact that people on relatively cheap deals have walked away with very good deals... £30(or less) pm for 18 month seems a good benchmark.

If you don't get the deal you want, it's definitely worth leaving it and ringing back.... eventually, you will get what you want.
