Shame for me they wouldn't let me have a refurb 3gs because I am 'only' a PAYG customer. They wouldn't budge. Ah well worth the try.

The clues are there.... you just have to look

Someone suggested going on a simplicity tariff for a few months.
  • Refurbs are in stock today! Had rung up a few times a couple of weeks ago and been offered 18 months at £40/month, 600 mins, unlimited texts, 02 to 02 and wifi package and phone for £89 (esentially what new customers are offered) and wasn't very impressed.

Called today and got a free refurb 16gb 3GS, £35 a month (same as my old blackberry contract) for 600 mins, unlimited texts, free O2 to O2 calls and wifi, 18 month contract. Not great (I reckon I could've got it down a couple of quid a month) but not too bad. They're pretty unwilling to budge on bolt ons on all the new contracts but I got a £5 loyalty discount. They could've done £30 (which you could definitely get down a bit) for 300 mins and all of the above but I use my phone too much.

I would've waited til the summer for the new iPhone but my old phone just broke and I don't think I could afford the new one anyway as I don't want to pay for a handset. It might drive down the price of the 3GS a bit I suppose.

Good luck with the haggling everyone! Jill at retentions was very nice and helpful - ask for her!

Does anyone know if you can keep your number if you're moving from an O2 Pay Monthly contract to an O2 iPhone SIMplicity contract?

Well mine arrived about an hour ago.
A black one rather than the white I asked for, however I couln't really make my mind up so I'm taking this as fate.:)
Just got it on charge now and am about to go to the Apple store at Meadowhall to pick up a case and screen protectors. I'm guessing that this phone is going to cost in more ways than one:)

If u want a decent stylish and light weight case I would highly reccomend the following:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Incipio-Feather-Case-iPhone-3GS/dp/B001M1JLLU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268918009&sr=8-1

Dont waste ur money in apple shop at mhall been there and they are all rip off prices. U can get the exact same things from other places much cheaper.
  • I tookthe advice given (i've been with o2 about 10years and am currently on the simplicity plan) and called the 'retention' dept (202 and keep selecting option 2) I told them I was thinking of leaving as the Iphone deals weren't too good in store or online and was cheerfully eventually offered a 16gb 3GS refurb (which just means it's been returned within the 14 day cooling off period and has been fully checked and reboxed but still has the full warranty etc) for £33pcm with 500 any network/time minutes, unlimited text and wi fi etc on an 18 month contract. There was no threats or argument needed (never underestimate the power of a few moments silence though!) and the lady (Sue) who handled my call was lovely. If you are a customer they dont want to lose you and will give you a decent deal if you ask.
