  • Well - spoke with O2 Retentions at lunchtime today, and they offered me the following on a refurbished 16GB 3GS -

    600 mins
    Unlimited Texts
    Unlimited Wifi/Internet
    £99 cost for the phone

    £32 a month for 18 months.

Told the lass I was disappointed with the offer, saying that I knew of people getting the iPhone for free - she said she couldn't budge on the offer.

Bit strange how many people get so many varied offers!

Will try again tonight, and see whether I can get it bettered - doubt it though!

  • Righto, quick question people... My contract with t-mobile is up in a couple of weeks and I'm considering jumping on the Iphone bandwagon. The problem of course is that it's so bleedin' expensive!

Being on t-mobile at the mo I obviously can't go through o2 retentions to get myself a refurb.

So any ideas on what would be the best move? Do I try t-mob retentions (i'm not even sure if they do the iphone, and even if so; i'm sure I've heard some bad things about their 'free internet' packages)?

Or is it best to just jump ship and get myself on O2? In which case I'm assuming the only option would be to go for one of their standard deals (I don't want to pay more than £35pm and don't really fancy a 24 month contract if poss so would have to shell out about £150 for the handset).

Any advice would be most appreciated!

    Cheeers.

This is what i went for, might be told by others it's not the best deal around but it works for me.

I plumped up the initial cash for the iphone (3GS 32gb) itself off ebay (£433 ) then got a £20 rolling SIMplicity deal from O2 (a shed load of texts and minutes and free data bolt-on).

Now i'm not tied in to anything and can change contract and iphones as and when i want. :)

PS. T-mobile don't do the iphone but you could ask them to match the SIMplicity deal, i think they have something similar, not sure what they're free data is like.

I have the unlimited texts Bolt On with my current contract and have never had to pay for texts when on holiday. Living in Northern Ireland, my phone jumps onto o2 Ireland all the time and it's never been an issue either.

I didn't realise the iPhone tariffs had free WiFi included already - obviously their employee I spoke to this morning didn't either!

I live in northern ireland also, if you have a tariff with minutes and texts and then the unlimited text bolt on also you don't pay for the texts as the roaming ones come out of the standard allowance. if you have a tariff with minutes and no standard texts just the unlimited texts you get charged when roaming as there is no standard allowance, eg. O2 BONUS 24 600 mins unlimited texts for £25

I am on iphone simplicity 600 mins 1200 texts and not paying for the texts when roaming, but every time i try to upgrade they keep giving me unlimited texts only which arn't free when roaming:mad:

Yes wifi is free with the cloud and bt openzone, i use it all the time at the airport.
  • So why are o2 Customer sales people telling lies-telling some ppl there are no refurb handsets in stock..then all of a sudden someone on here gets one-totally bizzare. I guess they are just choosing who to give one and who not too?

I know what you mean Louisa! I could have got one at lunchtime today, but felt a bit aggrieved at having to pay £99 for the phone!

Yeah-its a joke-some ppl on here have said they got a free 32gb refurb and not been with o2 long or spent much, yet i've been with o2 for more than 8 years and spend a fortune and they are being horrible about it-i'm phoning in a couple of weeks to see where i get again, then in a few weeks il send in my notice to cancel. I have spoke to about 6 diff ppl at o2 on diff occasions and each of them have told me a diff answer/story/policy....and when i ask them to put the note of the deal or offer or the conversation on my account they say yes...and then when i call up again there has no note been made-makes my blood boil

so my advice would be to take the deal if ur happy with it at the time as when you phone back-it might not be offered again-or have the handsets in stock!

Totally agree with you - and it is appalling how some people get treated!

I've now been told about some of the HTC phones, and I may decide to go down that route and get one of them!

Keep going, you will get what you want. From now on, when you ring up, take the full nameof anyone who deals with you. Note the date and offer, if you then ring up and they say oh, there are no notes, well follow the complaints route and they will usually honour the offer.

If you're ringing on a mobile, maybe record the calls.
