Like many others, I have stumbled across this thread and am very keen on getting an iPhone! My sister has one, and I am in awe! I'm on the O2 Simplicity 30 day contract - £20, plus I also have O2 Broadband. As per someone else's post - does being on the O2 Broadband add a bit of clout to a potential deal?

Have been with O2 since May 2008, and so wonder whether I will be able to contact retentions, or is that only for 12/18/24 month contract holders?

    Thanks in advance :j

As I said on my post I had been on the same simplicity tariff as yourself since May last year, and prior to that I was on an 18 month contract.

All I would say is give them a call and say as I did that you are interested in the iphone and understand that as an existing customer you might get a better deal on a reconditioned phone - worst that can happen is they offer you the same deal as new customers have to pay - then you can say "no thanks!!"

Will do - tried calling them just now, but their systems are being updated - so will have to try again another time.

    Hi there,
I’ve been fascinated by everyone’s method/approach in getting a better deal with the iPhone 3G.
I personally don’t believe I have much leverage in haggling due to not being an o2 customer…but my contract with 3 is due at the end of February.
Do you think there’s any way of getting a deal with the 600mins etc. for something better than £35 given the fact I’m not with o2?

Well, all I can think of is phone up and see what they say!

    Hi All,

Thought I'd post my Iphone upgrade deal.

Rang 202 yesterday morning and spoke to a very nice and helpful lady.

Explained that I had a Ignito (got it for free on release) and had a reduced tariff of £20 and wanted a tariff close to that and a free Iphone 3GS.

She immediately offered me a free refurb 16GB and a £35 tariff reduced to £31.

So I asked if they could reduce their £30 tariff (75 mins and 150 texts) by £5. She said they would reduce it to £25 but I would have to pay £57 for the phone. BUT if I reduced to £26 I could pay £39 for the phone...(sorry that was a bit long winded but wanted to put the detail in).

    So I got:
    refurb Iphone 16GB 3GS black: £39
monthly tariff £26 (75 mins, 150 text unlimited web and wifi)

Delivered to my work on monday

I would have still liked the phone for free but I don't think it was an option, I did say I would by the apple protection if I could get the phone for free but she couldn't do it either.

    HTH someone

    Gaz

was speaking in a 3 store today with manager he was telling me that 3 are currently testing the i phone on there network and will be released shortly next month or so.
so those looking for better deal could be worth mentioning with 02 as they say a twisting of arms.
    hope this helps

The cheapest way to get phone from new is apply for tesco credit card and get 12 months int free on purchase of Iphone (£320 for 16GB) and take 12 month contract @ £20.00.

The monthly payments would work out at £26.67 for phone and £20 for contract total £46.67 for 12 months overall total £560.

you will get clubcard points as well.

This is the deal I am going for!

Hi, What do you get in mins / texts etc for the £20.oo a month?

you get £60 worth of either text or calls or a mixture of both. texts are £0.10 each and calls are £0.20 per minute to all networks you can get half price to your nominated 5 numbers (ie £0.05 text and £0.10 per minute).

By spreading the cost interest free it avoids a large upfront payment and you are out of contract it 12 months.

PAYG is also available for £440 you can get a 16gb handset.

Well phoned them up today, but they didn't have any refurbs in stock, so will have to call back during the week and see whether they have any. But they do go like hot cakes she said - whether that's just their marketing ploy!

  • Hi, is there anyone who could get a refurbished iphone 3GS (from O2 retention dept) without being with O2 previously? They told me over the phone that they don't do this for new costumers.
