Hi all, been reading this topic for the past few weeks as my o2 renewal date is close approaching... Im wondering what other people would do in my situation...
I can upgrade my phone from the 8th Feb as that will be me 17months into my 18month contract with o2. I currently am on the £35pm contract with a 8gb 3G phone. The options as I see it are...
Drop down to the monthly rolling contract with o2 and keep same phone at cost of £20pm and wait for the 4G phone...
Haggle with o2 retentions and try and get the 32gb 3gs for same price and deal but free...
Im quite up for dropping down to the rolling contract if the new phone is going to be out by the summer and I would be able to upgrade for a cheaper price. But perhaps it would be better just to get the 3gs and not worry about the new phone until 18months time?
Any thoughts?

If I were you, I would simply dropdown to one month rolling contract and wait for the 4G phone. When the new phone is released, if you think its not good/too expensive, you will always have the option of going for the same 3GS deal.0 -
Whats the 4G phone going to entail?0

No-one knows yet
Unlikely to be announced until June time.0 -
lifted else whereO2's 'open deal' deal has been changed, no longer a contract discount of 30%, its something of a cashback depending how much your contract is. Think it was £75 back on iphone 3Gs.
Not sure about the other business schemes.
Also iPhone 4G is coming, probably june/july 2010 according to tech rumours, dont think its going to be a nano version, more a updated screen, OLED, 5mp camera, possible removable battery, true GPS. mock up below.0 -
I got my iphone 3g 4 months before the new 3gs. It runs out just in time for the new one if there is one of course!0

hi again...
just got off the phone ot O2 and heres what i got.........
16Gb 3Gs refurb
600 minutes
unlimited texts
unlimited data
18 months with option of changing tariff after 9 months
£35 a month
pretty happy with it tbh......i have unlimited texts at the moment and needed to carry on with them..... but they wouldnt add them for free with a new phone.... was willing to pay for a new handset, but after the good comments on here decided to go with the refurb............... just mention when on the phone that you want to cancel ur contract there and then and they change their tune!!!!
delivered tomorrow... will update on condition of phone etc....
cheers0 -
Just got off the phone & been offered the standard £35 p.m. iphone package, but with a free 32gb 3GS for free.
I've had apple reconditioned goods before & been no problems - still get the 14 day cooling off period aswell.
Was previously on £20 simplicity deal since May, and an 18 month contract prior to that.
I didn't even have to threaten to leave just said I was looking around at getting a 3GS and had heard that I might be able to get a better deal with a reconditioned phone rather than the brand new one (would have cost £279 for a brand new one)
Now to sell my payg iphone - CEX offering around £220
Thanks to everyone on here for bringing this to my attention0 -
Hi there,
I’ve been fascinated by everyone’s method/approach in getting a better deal with the iPhone 3G.
I personally don’t believe I have much leverage in haggling due to not being an o2 customer…but my contract with 3 is due at the end of February.
Do you think there’s any way of getting a deal with the 600mins etc. for something better than £35 given the fact I’m not with o2?0 -
Like many others, I have stumbled across this thread and am very keen on getting an iPhone! My sister has one, and I am in awe! I'm on the O2 Simplicity 30 day contract - £20, plus I also have O2 Broadband. As per someone else's post - does being on the O2 Broadband add a bit of clout to a potential deal?
Have been with O2 since May 2008, and so wonder whether I will be able to contact retentions, or is that only for 12/18/24 month contract holders?
Thanks in advance :j2021
