hello, I wanted to share my experience with getting an iphone upgrade with o2.
i've been with o2 since they were Genie and didn't want to change now. I looked on Vodaphone's iphone deals and they had one which suited me better, £35p/m for 18 months, 300 minutes and unlimited texts, (i text a lot more than i call!) but they had a 1GB cap on their web (boo!).
So I called o2 retentions (202,2,2,2) and spoke to Becky... this is on Monday morning. she said they can match that deal, by adding unlimited texts onto their normal £35p/m tarriff. didn't take much persuading, just said i was thinking of going to Voda and quoting their deal. but they still didn't have any refurb iphones in stock. so I called the next morning and they didn't have any, was told to phone after 4pm as they get their deliveries then.
By Thursday night about 7.50pm they had the black 16gb 3gs in stock - refurb. Spoke to very unhelpful man who tried to push the o2 broadband deal (which are very good) and said he didn't know why i was offered unlimited texts, they can't do that on iphones... he probably just wanted to go home as it was latehe tried and tried to get me to take the refurb with only 500 texts, said they might not get any more phones for a month!!!
So i tried this morning (Friday), they still had the 16gb 3gs in stock
spoke to Paul and he understood that i had been with o2 for yonks and with a little bit of persuasion he offered me...
£35p/m for 18months
600 minutes any time any network (i never use more than 150 a month anyway he told me)
unlimited texts (i had 1000 on my old contract and never went over 500 but pushed for it anyway)
paid £59 upfront for the refurb 16gb 3gs iphone but for that i got the applecare extended warranty as well.
am well pleased!! happy i didn't take the unhelpful man's offer of 500 texts.
persistence is the key!! good luck if you are trying for a similar deal0 -

Hi,
I ordered a refurb yesterday with they same deal as you got but paid £39 upfront.
The iphone has arrived today but I am not happy. The charger has marks on it and is clearly not in new condition (it has been used for alot longer than 14 days) also the screen on the iphone has marks on it, slight marks but marks none the less and one is deep enough to be visable when the screen is on. The home button was also worn!!
They are sending out another refurb model to me today but I have to say that if these are 14 day returns and fulling inspected by Apple, Apple staff must be blind!
My advice would be to inspect it very carefully indeed and be 100% happy with it0 -

hmm, not good! sound advice though, i will definitely check it all out.
i would have thought the applecare would cover marks to the screen and things like that, so it could be taken into an apple store and they would repair it, even if it's the previous owner who made the marks? not that you should have to!0 -

I doubt it because they could say we have made the marks.
Check it over on delivery and call o2 straight away if its not perfect before you are stuck with it for 18 months0 -
New on here so hope this posts!
I am with 02 and have wanted an iphone for ages. My current 18month contracts ends in June 2010, however my Sony Erricson phone is broken and I'm in need of a new one.
I had been calling and emailing 02 for weeks to come up with a good deal..
I finally managed to get a free 16gb 3gs iphone for £35pm 600mins/ unlimited web/ unlimited texts but had to pay £120 to get out of my existing contract. In the end I think I managed to secure a brand new phone and not a refurb, which at 11am this morning they did have in stock. However, I do think that it depends on who you get through to as my boyfriend rang 10mins earlier than what I did and 02 stated that they did not have any refurbs in stock.
I know I've had to fork out the £120 to buy out my contract but with my phone broken anyway this is similiar to an amount I would have to pay for any other decent phone.0 -
o2 really baffle me! I've been told soooo many different things by them! Ordered my iphone last night, had to pay £65 for the phone, despite having 5 friends who got free refurbs. The guy on the phone was amazing, sooooo nice and friendly.
I got the £35 a month deal, he suggested an unlimited text bolt-on at £7.50 per month (which I was told by 3 other o2 employees doesn't exist any more!). But because it was an upgrade as opposed to a new contract (which I was told they don't do with the iphone) they are keeping my £10 a month discount from my old contract. I only found this out when I phoned today to ask a question about shipping.
So I've gone from being pretty peeved at paying £65 for the phone to being very happy to have £10 off my bill!!0 -

It must be me, everytime I speak to 02 retentions, £189 is the cheapest quote on 18 month contract.0 -
I heard o2 is not giving 30% discount any more but the £75 ?
I am with 3 from last 6 years but now i moved in to new house and do not get any signals at all so need to change my network to, O2, Tmobile or vodafone which is much stronger.
I am really willing to get Iphone but do not want to pay more then £30pm and i use nearly 500 mins every month, kindly help me what should i do.
My second choice would be HTC Hero ........
You advice please !0 -
£35 is the cheapest you can expect for what u want as a new customer to those networks. It's alot easier to negoiate when ur looking to leave a network than join one0

Hi,
Not sure if anyone can help but I'm looking to upgrade my old phone to the iPhone 3G 8GB. I'm with Vodafone and checked their tariffs but Orange have a more suitable tariff for me:- £30/month, 150 mins, 250 texts, Free Phone. I rang Vodafone and they will offer a similar deal:- £30/month, 300 mins, unlimited texts, £63 for the phone. (I currently pay £25 per month & lost my phone a long time ago!)
I explained to the salesman that 300 mins/unlimited text would be overkill for me (he even told me that I average 90 mins talk time) but told me that Apple fixed the tariffs and he couldnt waive the £63 fee. Basically I'd move over to Orange tomorrow if I could but unfortunately I have at least 4 months left on my contract.
Does anyone know if Vodafone are likely to budge on this one? I'm willing to wait the 4 months, cancel and move over to Orange. In fact, if Voda offer me the deal right before my contract expires, I'd go anyway out of principle. Is it worth telling Voda this or will they have no interest? Has anyone known them to budge on iPhone costs yet?
are you getting a better deal with voda than what they advertise, what should it cost and contract length? and what phone?0
