for £35/mnth you could have got the same contract, but a brand new 3gs for £179. id rather pay for the new one personally, rather than take a used phone but each to their own

for £35 p.m. you can get the iPhone for free from retentions if you negotiate.

I was offered this deal from O2 retentions:

    Reboxed iphone 3gs 16GB for £10
    18 month contract
    £31 per month
    600 minutes, 500 texts
    Unlimited data and wifi

The person I spoke to in retentions said this deal may not be available the next time I call, so I took it there and then!

    Seems OK to me?

    I got a new 3gs 32gb for free on an 18 month £35/month contract.

Now that is a good deal!
However, I'm still happy I'm saving the £4 per month over the 18 month contract period - a saving of £62 overall (taking the £10 off for the phone) which is great if you dont mind a reboxed, 16GB iphone :T

Heavysnow - are you a big monthly spender with 02? I'm just wondering if you said or did anything to get the £4 per month discount?

I am not a big monthly spender at all - my current O2 contract is £30pm for 200mins and 200 txts - I never go over the monthly allowed mins and only occasionally send more than 200txts a month. I have been an O2 customer though for about 11 years - right back to the old "BT Cellnet" days so maybe that carries some weight? Or possibly the competition from Orange and Tesco is encouraging O2 to provide all existing customers with good deals :j

When I rang retentions, I just said that I have seen some good deals with Tesco and Orange and I was wondering what O2 would offer their long-standing customers to keep their business. They offered me a 24 month deal first of all with a free reboxed phone but on a £35pm tariff. I said that sounded OK but what can they do for an 18 month contract. Then, the deal I took was mentioned - the same tariff, reduced by £4 per month to £31pm and a reboxed iphone for £10. (600mins 500txts unlimited data+wifi)

I may well have been able to get a better deal if I perservered but I'm not a good haggler and to be honest, this is one of the cheapest iphone deals I have seen with a total cost over the 18 months of (£31x18 + £10) = £568

Thanks for that - I've been with O2 for about 8 years too, originally on PAYG, then migrated to contract - due an upgrade tomorrow so I'll try and see what I can come up with from retentions - if I can get the same deal as you then I'll be well happy!

Currently on the online 35 discounted to £20.00 a month so will see what happens!

    Thanks for the info!
    Regards, Robin.

Good luck ! From what I have read in here, it is worth perservering if you don't get a deal as good as that - even call back every day for a week or so until you get something decent.
  • Just ordered an upgrade from o2:

Free brand new 3gs 16 gig
    18m contract
    600 mins
    500 texts
    Unlimited data and wifi
    £31 per month

    Happy with that

    Hi MClarke,

That is a cracking deal! A new 3GS and for £31 p/m! Was that the 1st call to O2 you made? Did you have to negotiate for long to get that deal?

apple are doing a special launch on 27th in america. mainly for their new tablet, but rumours of 4g update. i would imagine this would be software rather than phone update.

there was a slight difference in 3g and 3gs phones, so maybe worth the wait to see what is to be announched
