Just ordered my iphone (reboxed) 16gb 3gs on 18 month contract. its the £35 a month reduced to £31 for the duration. Iphone was free (£1) as well.

Just have to inspect the phone really carefully when it is delivered.

Great deal, was this through O2 retentions?

yeah. i called twice tried to get new iphone but they wouldn't budge. also enquired for a 32gb version but werent in stock.

it seems people have been successful at getting brand new iphones but they had been on £35 contracts perviously and mine was only a £20.

that shouldnt make a difference, you should be able to get the 16GB free on the £35 18mth, most people can

i'm afraid not true for the moment at least. relative works in contracts for o2. and the higher the contract you are on(have been on) the higher the customer loyalty rating and the better the upgrade deal available. It changes on a month to month basis however.

recently, most people on here who have gotten a new iphone for free have previously been on at least £35 a month contract.

It does seem to very to say the least. I was paying £30 a month before.
  • hello, I wanted to share my experience with getting an iphone upgrade with o2.

i've been with o2 since they were Genie and didn't want to change now. I looked on Vodaphone's iphone deals and they had one which suited me better, £35p/m for 18 months, 300 minutes and unlimited texts, (i text a lot more than i call!) but they had a 1GB cap on their web (boo!).
So I called o2 retentions (202,2,2,2) and spoke to Becky... this is on Monday morning. she said they can match that deal, by adding unlimited texts onto their normal £35p/m tarriff. didn't take much persuading, just said i was thinking of going to Voda and quoting their deal. but they still didn't have any refurb iphones in stock. so I called the next morning and they didn't have any, was told to phone after 4pm as they get their deliveries then.
By Thursday night about 7.50pm they had the black 16gb 3gs in stock - refurb. Spoke to very unhelpful man who tried to push the o2 broadband deal (which are very good) and said he didn't know why i was offered unlimited texts, they can't do that on iphones... he probably just wanted to go home as it was late :( he tried and tried to get me to take the refurb with only 500 texts, said they might not get any more phones for a month!!!
So i tried this morning (Friday), they still had the 16gb 3gs in stock :)
spoke to Paul and he understood that i had been with o2 for yonks and with a little bit of persuasion he offered me...

    £35p/m for 18months
600 minutes any time any network (i never use more than 150 a month anyway he told me)
unlimited texts (i had 1000 on my old contract and never went over 500 but pushed for it anyway)
paid £59 upfront for the refurb 16gb 3gs iphone but for that i got the applecare extended warranty as well.

am well pleased!! happy i didn't take the unhelpful man's offer of 500 texts.

persistence is the key!! good luck if you are trying for a similar deal :D

Thanks terrorvicky, just got a good deal on my new iphone by quoting your offer!

Like you I've been with o2 since BT Genie and rang earlier today to see what I could get. The man in sales didn't want to offer me anything else that you can't get online....and I wanted something more considering I've been with them for 10 yrs!

I tried calling again through customer services saying I wasn't happy with what I'd been offered and wanted to get the deal I'd seen on an online post (didn't specify which). I was then put through to o2 retentions (which seems to be the key) and they said they'd match what I'd seen here. Bingo.

I'd previously been on a £35/month contract but was only paying £20 for it so I don't think you necessarily need to be paying £35/m to get this good deal-just being polite and persuasive seems to work.

Looking forward to getting my new phone-hopefully the refurb will be in good nick.

    Thanks again and good luck!

P.S. another option is to go to o2 simplicity 30 day contract for £20 a month with your existing handset and wait until June 2010 as there's going to be a new iphone then.
  • I was offered this deal from O2 retentions:

    Reboxed iphone 3gs 16GB for £10
    18 month contract
    £31 per month
    600 minutes, 500 texts
    Unlimited data and wifi

The person I spoke to in retentions said this deal may not be available the next time I call, so I took it there and then!

    Seems OK to me?

for £35/mnth you could have got the same contract, but a brand new 3gs for £179. id rather pay for the new one personally, rather than take a used phone but each to their own

hmmm - that would be 4x£18 + £179 - £10 more expensive - in total, £241 more expensive - from a money saving point of view, I'll stick with the reboxed phone! Apparantly they are in perfect condition and if I am unhappy I can get it exchanged within 2 weeks of receiving it! The reboxed phones are from customers who have decided not to keep the iphone within that 2 week period - the software is reinstalled and the phone reboxed to look as good as new. I'll find out on Tuesday - can't wait :j
