Finally I ordered my iphone from O2. Here is my story:
Was on O2 on simplicity 20 for 18 months. Phoned the retentions yesterday and asked them what they can do for an iPhone upgrade.
I was given 32GB £GS brandnew handset, with £45 a month, 1200 min, 18 month contract, with downgrade option after 9 months. Got the phone for no cost.
Looks like this is not hte best deal I got as the rep told yes straight away when I asked for it. My brain wasn't working as I was too excited to be getting an iPhone. What do you guys think?

I'd have thought as long as you downgrade after 9 months (assuming you don't actually need the minutes/texts) then it could work out to be a good deal. Afterall, you got a 32GB 3GS for nothing up-front.
I'm still fighting the desire to buy the same phone from Tesco. It's not exactly 'Money-Saving', is it? :wall:0 -

The idea is that if you top up £15 a month you get unlimited texts and unlimited internet for free with the £15 then used as calling credit. If you're a relatively infrequent call user, this works brilliantly with the iPhone.
Re-visiting this subject again, I've just come across T-Mobile's free pay as you go sim which, for a £10 top each month, gives you free texts and internet each month for life. As an infrequent caller, if I unlock my O2 iPhone, is this a better deal than O2's above mentioned 'Text and Web' tarriff?
Anyone any thoughts on this?
Thanks,

Looking at the tariff details, I'm a little confused - Internet on phone - £1 per day maximum. I thought it was free? It also sounds like a limit to me. What does £1 per day actually equate to? How do they charge per mb?
Ahhh...Fair use policy- This plan comes with a fair use policy of 40MB a day.
- We'll monitor how much you send and receive each calendar month so that we can protect our network for all our customers.
- If you use more than your fair use policy amount, we won't charge you any more, but we may restrict how you can use internet on your phone, depending on how often you go over your amount and by how much.
Internet on your phone £1 a day plan
Internet day pass costs up to £1.
How we calculate charges
We'll automatically charge 0.73p per KB each day (midnight to midnight) when you use internet on your phone until you hit £1 a day and then we won't charge you any more.
I'm not sure how this fits in with their 'free internet'.0 -
It's a bit confusing. I initially assumed that the £1 a day charge for internet only kicked in if you don't top up £10 a month? But I could well be wrong about that?

On the piece the "Total cost over contract" column is a bit misleading when comparing the 12 month with the 18 month contracts.
I always do an "average cost per month" - i.e. the total amount you pay (upfront + (months*monthly amount)) / months.
So...

I've been ringing o2 for a few days now because I was told that they had to have re-furbs in stock or they couldn't even go over the deals with me. and that the deals change on a day-to-day basis.
I can cancel my contract in a couple of days, which I'm fully willing to do and see if they can get me a re-furb then.0 -
Also, am I right in thinking that o2 are the only company offering "refurbs" ie. free iphones??0

We picked the phone up yesterday and the total cost for a 16GB 3GS on PAYG was £326 (£44 staff discount and £70 upgrade voucher).
If you have a phone on the Tesco Mobile tariff, log on to:- Sorry wont let me publish link.
Go to the My Tesco Mobile section, as there could be a voucher worth up to £100 waiting for you, to be spent on ANY Tesco Mobile phone.
The £70 voucher was a nice surprise for me (as a light user of my phone) and came in handy for the OH.
Many thanks for your tip. I followed your link and saw that I had a £10 voucher for an upgrade waiting there. Unfortunately I had ordered my phone 24 hours earlier via Tesco Direct being delivered into my local store tomorrow. Not sure how I can claim this unless I present the voucher when I pick it up.0 -
Hi,
Not sure if anyone can help but I'm looking to upgrade my old phone to the iPhone 3G 8GB. I'm with Vodafone and checked their tariffs but Orange have a more suitable tariff for me:- £30/month, 150 mins, 250 texts, Free Phone. I rang Vodafone and they will offer a similar deal:- £30/month, 300 mins, unlimited texts, £63 for the phone. (I currently pay £25 per month & lost my phone a long time ago!)
I explained to the salesman that 300 mins/unlimited text would be overkill for me (he even told me that I average 90 mins talk time) but told me that Apple fixed the tariffs and he couldnt waive the £63 fee. Basically I'd move over to Orange tomorrow if I could but unfortunately I have at least 4 months left on my contract.
Does anyone know if Vodafone are likely to budge on this one? I'm willing to wait the 4 months, cancel and move over to Orange. In fact, if Voda offer me the deal right before my contract expires, I'd go anyway out of principle. Is it worth telling Voda this or will they have no interest? Has anyone known them to budge on iPhone costs yet?0
