I spoke to O2 last week on my son's behalf. Got a 32gb reboxed ( refurbed) iphone for £31 on 18 month contract. No additional phone cost. Added a bolt on for £7.50 which gives him unlimited texts and 500 mins voice and unlim data. Phone arrived a couple of days ago and whilst not in original iphone box it all looks brand new and works just great. Liked the look of it so much I thought I would get one. Phoned O2 again but they informed me that refurbed were only available to upgrades and not to new accounts. They offered me £45 a month + £87 as their cheapest option on 18 month. I told them I would go to Tesco but they could not improve the deal.

if you don't mind me asking what contract was your son on before??
  • I just paid £340 from tesco and £20 a month but no £60 cashback like martin said.

This is a good deal for new customers cost is £580 after 12 months.

The deal ive been offered is £372 after 12 months and £558 after 18 months, albeit a reboxed iphone.

Not sure I'm going to do much better.

Is there a particular reason that you can't get one from Vodafone

Think I might go for the same deal. Is it really busy at Tesco? Do you think the credit allowance is enough for your needs?

  • The tesco deal is a cracking deal plus after 12 months they give you the unlock code to.

I was going to pay £450 with o2 for the phone with free internet this deal is less upfront cash and a little per month

He was on the £35 a month with unlimited texts and data with a free Nokia 95 or 97. I think the call limit was 500 minutes.

Just discovered that if you have a Tesco credt card you can buy the iphone interest free over 12 months which could be a reasonable option rather than pay out 300 or 400 £.

  • Something that people might like to consider (and is working brilliantly for me):

o2 currently have a promotion on for a new pay as you go tariff called 'Text and Web'. The idea is that if you top up £15 a month you get unlimited texts and unlimited internet for free with the £15 then used as calling credit. If you're a relatively infrequent call user, this works brilliantly with the iPhone.

I bought an iPhone directly from Apple through Quidco (making it about £435 at the time) and using a 0% credit card. I sold the iPhone sim card with the years free internet on ebay for just under £50 and got a free sim from the o2 website. I'm now not tied into any contract and, as long as I top up £15 a month I get free internet and free texts.

Once the cashback and cost of selling the sim has been taken into consideration it means that my iPhone costs about £655 over the course of 18 months - a fair bit cheaper than I would be on contract (and with infinitely more text messages!). Admittedly you do need to be in a position to pay the majority of this cost up-front but, so long as you can, it's a great way to go. The real beauty is that there's no contract - I can upgrade to a new phone whenever I want.

    Lovely!

chanticleer - thanks for your post - I've been wondering about this myself recently. I'm on the Text and Call tariff at the mo and then paying £10 a month on top for the web and wifi iphone bolt-on.

Do you know if your Text and Web tariff covers web only, or web and wifi?

    Many thanks,
    Sazzy
