  • I never paid for and never will pay for an NUS Extra card. Every retailer I go into accepts my student swipe card... which is funny considering I left university this summer. Hehe.

Just to pass this on: A friend of mine claims she got Amazon discount WITHOUT an extra card by emailing them exactly why she couldn't give her money to the NUS (All the NUSSL issues: Nestle, arms support, etc) and saying she was saddened that they had fostered links with the NUS. Apparently you only need to enter a code once and then everytime you buy stuff, the discount comes off at checkout...

Its not the guys fault hes following procedure

While I appreciate that, he was really quite rude in the way he said it, which what was annoyed me. My friend and I had to keep on asking him questions to find out about the whole HMV student card thing, when in the past staff members have always been forthcoming with information. Perhaps he was having a bad day or something, who knows. I'm not going to dwell on it since I use Amazon instead of HMV now anyway, much cheaper!

But you can get most of those with reguar Uni ID... The only sticky one there is amazon, where it has to be an NUS extra card.

Superdrug also has to be NUS extra.. i tried to use my normal NUS one in there the other day and was told that it had to be the extra one, she did try it, but it didn't work.

    I've been Money Tipped!
What is really stupid about the HMV card is that it says on the back that you have to produce BOTH their card AND a valid student I.D.

    Why?????

I've not had any trouble - they have a code on a sheet of paper next to the till whch they scan...

I don't have an NUS card, but I always get student rates at my local cinema as my Uni I.D card is always sufficient for them.. they have never questioned it.

I know that certain shops such as Bank and Schuh vary a lot. Some stores accept a valid Uni I.D, whilst others will only accept an NUS card. I think a lot of the time it's the manager's or the shop assistant's disceretion.
  • Has anyone had issues with not getting their card? A friend of mine ordered her NUS card about a month ago and it still hasn't turned up.
