NUS EXTRA rip off
Comments
-
Im really sick of forking out £10 for nus extra only to find that it doesnt work in most places it claims to work. for example, hmv. yestaday i bought some dvds from hmv and presented my nus extra card only to be told they dont work any more and you have to have a hmv student card which conviently only are issued in september. whats the point in paying so much for this card when it hardly works anywhere. its the same for zavvi. i even get asked for alternative id at cinemas and stuff because they dont recognise the nus extra brand. im not buying it next septemeber.
NUS Extra cards tend not to be very good value in University cities/towns where most places that will offer a student discount already do with your regular NUS card. The extra card tends to be more useful in places without such a high student population.0 -
just a quick question:
anyone know why you only get to use the NUS Extra card with Amazon once?
I tried using it a 2nd time and it kept saying the code had already been used... is there a limit to how many times you can use it in a given time period.
You don't need to enter the code each time, once you do it the first time its linked to your account. When you order in the future you should see on the final page something listed like "Promotional Discount" and the amount of discount your getting this is the NUS Extra discount.0 -

well that's odd because there was no discount/promotional code when I used Amazon last time!
hmmm... might have to look into that!
thanks

I find a lot of places are cool with NUS discount, if you're nice to them.
If you start demanding that you are entitled to this or that, they may be a bit less hospitable.
F'rinnstace, i asked in top man, and was chatting to the guy. When i brought the jeans and shirts i wanted to the till, he told me that, i'd be better waiting to buy them till tomorrow, as he was marking them all down after work. He even held them behind the counter for me!
Ended up saving a good £30 or £40, as i got the NUS on top of the sale price!
Theres a lot to be said for knowing when to smile and be nice as opposed to demanding rights

I think Amazon student discount only applies to books.
ah! that might be why then... I was ordering a HHD!
Thanks for that.

It isn't.. you just have have to go though the NUS extra website every time you want the discount.

But I did go through the NUS extra website!
I'm now back to confused...

Quoting Amazon here:Once you have made one purchase on Amazon.co.uk using your discount code, the discount will apply to all eligible purchses within that academic year. You will not need to add it again. Discount codes expire at the end of the academic year.
Does the discount apply to all products?
No. Currently the discount only applies to books, music and DVDs. It does not apply to any other products.0 -
