NUS EXTRA rip off

Im really sick of forking out £10 for nus extra only to find that it doesnt work in most places it claims to work. for example, hmv. yestaday i bought some dvds from hmv and presented my nus extra card only to be told they dont work any more and you have to have a hmv student card which conviently only are issued in september. whats the point in paying so much for this card when it hardly works anywhere. its the same for zavvi. i even get asked for alternative id at cinemas and stuff because they dont recognise the nus extra brand. im not buying it next septemeber.

yes I found this too, they trialed them at our university so this was their excuse as to why they wouldnt work. Most of the places that offer nus discounts accept student ID anyway. I also fell out with NUS when the lecturers were striking over pay and hadn't marked most of our work and exams NUS sided with the lecturers!0

I've never had any problems with mine, i find it an absolute godsend, i use it so much and think its well worth the money Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0 -
my NUS card works anywhere bar the obvious places (which do not take any other student ID anyway) such as zavvi and HMV.
Maybe you're shopping in the wrong places?
And what cinema doesn't recognise the NUS Extra card? If they say its not a student card, make them read and if they still say no, get the manager.0 -
I've got an NUS card, whatever you get in 6th form, and I've never ever had problems with it! HMV gave me a student card and I don't think it was in September, but I could be wrong. I've had student discount taken off several times there with no probs, and I don't think I've even ever used their card lol0

HMV has always accepted my NUS Extra card. Haven't used it in over a month now though. They probably have backed out of the scheme.
I prefer Zavvi anyway now. Seems cheaper. No student discount though.0 -
I know hmv had changed it slightly in some way, think you had to get another card from hmv to get discount, i cant comment on the other shops, have you tried contacting nus to see if they can give you an up to date list of places where you can use it and as to the cinema not recognising the nus extra card whats going on thereNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

hmv specifically told me that there would be no cards issued until september. even macdonalds where i live have questioned the nus card.0

Yeah HMV had them until about March, I think, they went back. But once you get one, it works for the whole year - they still took mine the other day.
Wait until September and start collecting cards! No longer using this account for new posts from 20130
