There are more McDonalds owned stores than there are Franchises. The franchise stores are generally in retail parks or at service stations but there are some in town and city centres as well. You can normally tell its a franchise because most of the time they are more expensive than normal McDonalds. It does say on the NUS site for the McDonalds offer "Participating Resturants Only".

i have noticed that about macdonalds at service stations etc but then i thought the rise in prices were due to the location the macdonalds was in,

Ive never had any problems with my NUS extra card, and it did come in handy on holiday in Austria this year. It allowed me to get student discount on a guided tour wheras my mate with a normal NUS card was unable to get one. Apparently the extra card gives me membership to some sort of international student discount thing.

Saved me 10 euros, well happy :)

i asked why they would not accept my cards and there response was because they are franchises. Just my luck that the MC D's near uni is in a retail park, and the one closest to home is also in one. Both Franchises.
:confused:I say im a moneysaver, my family think im a cheapskate!

    McDonalds are a franchise.

The franchise owner can choose whether to give student discount.

Hence the 'at participating stores only' on adverts etc.

Not all McDonalds are franchises. Only about 30% are in the UK.All the McDonalds that arn't franchises will accept the NUS Extra discount. Those which are franchises can decide whether to accept it or not.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I used mine at Zavvi last Tuesday with no problem.

I've more than made my money back this year with the various offers at places like Yo Sushi. Dorothy Perkins is brilliant as they give you discount on top of the sale prices!!!

And yes - it also gives you the ISIC membership which I have used abroad - I got in cheaper than my 8yr old to places like the NEMO in Amsterdam:D

no one forces you to buy the card... so if you don't like it don't pay for it!!
I've never had any issues with mine... I keep forgetting about it but I'm not use to having discounts on stuff so need to get into the habit of using it more. but I have pretty much got my money back in discounts so I can't complain!

    just a quick question:
anyone know why you only get to use the NUS Extra card with Amazon once?
I tried using it a 2nd time and it kept saying the code had already been used... is there a limit to how many times you can use it in a given time period.
