over the past week we have been getting either silent calls or calls were we can hear sound that sounds like the usual sound of a busy office but no-one ever speaks when we say hello. when we do 1471 the number is either not given out or it is 01535 2971670 or 08000 927206.
it is so annoying that we now leave the answer machine on almost all the time.
it is about time the authorities did something about it. they should make making silent calls illegal and also once a company has spoke to you once then they should then not be allowed to call you again for at least 1 year.
if a man kept calling a woman and not speaking he would get into trouble so why shouldnt a company get into trouble for harassing people in the same way.0 -
just had another call and when i did 1471 it said the number was 0111. what the f*** kind of number is that? can anyone give me a clue?0

A spoofed number.
It's a way of getting around anonymous caller rejection without display a proper number.
I used to spoof numbers like 0111 and 0111111111 and others.
It could be a mis-configured system, accidentally or purposely. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
the answer machine took the call. at first we got music like when you are put on hold and then office chatter and then it hung up.0

Keep getting 4 or 5 calls a day from 0800 0512592.
When I answer its like a silent call.
This is the number thats left when you do callback and a message says its sky (think it may be a marketing company working on behalf of sky). How can I find out who they are so i can contact them and get them to take me off their list?0 -
This number actually belongs to sky. Called them on 01506 421813 they use that 0800 number to ring people about signing up to sky (its the sales line)
