We are getting repeated silent calls from 01252 377197 despite being TPS and Silent Call Guard registered. Google doesn't reveal anything about the number, nor does calling it - it just rings off after two minutes. I complained to BT's nuisance calls depart who confirmed that it is a computer generated calling system but due to "data protection restrictions" wouldn't tell me who the gits are. I also logged a complaint with Ofcom which will be used if others receive calls and complain about the same number.
Does anyone here know who that number belongs to? I'd dearly love to find out and "have words"...

hi all,
i have started to get calls with number unavailable, which i answered once and it was a sales pitch but on a voice machine, 'something about getting out of credit card debt' which i hung up straight away, anyone else getting calls where there is a voice machine selling ?0 -
I haven't had a nuisance selling call for a couple of years since signing up to the TPA, however, this evening I answered a call which was clearly a recording and announced itself as a U.K. wide announcement for people in debt. I hung up as I knew it would be scam. Anyone else had one.? I've looked back over a couple of pages and see there are all sorts of weird scams going on.
Why can't our landline providers ever get on top of these wretched bums who keep pulling these scams? (1471 said the obvious!). Is it worth informing my provider?0 -
If you have a number then yes. Its difficult for communications provider to work out unless they screen calls, so reporting this would benefit others in the future!0

Had a similar message left on my answer machine last week, I just deleted it, looks like another scam doing the rounds, I am also registered with the TPS but you still get the occasional ones that ignore it, I have reported a couple to the TPS, whether they do anything I am not sure.0 -
I have started to get unwanted sales messages from this number being left on my 1571 service. I got the number via 1471 and the message is to dial 5 to get advice on accident compensation. I am registered not to receive unsolicited sales calls and I don't recognise the format of this number, especially starting 00... Can someone please tell me what it is and how I can get it stopped. Many Thanks0

On the face of it, 001 means it originated in USA and the 616 part means it came from Michigan. The subsequent digits are a standard 7-digit telephone number.
But I doubt it.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I wonder? - the messages are pre-recorded with poor sound quality. I'm not a techy but could there be a computer there chucking them out at no cost over something like skype?0 -
I too had a call from this number today - answered it to a recorded message about compensation. I've been registered with TPS since I had the line installed, and this is the first nuisance call. Will be reporting it immediately.0

00 is the dialling code you dial for an international number, surely you must have come across that?
1 is the code for the USA, like 44 is the code for the UK.
Heinz has explained it well.
You can get International freephone numbers those are 00 800.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
