  • First off, I've no idea where this should be so please move it if I've posted on the wrong board.

I just had a phone call displayed as Private Number. When I answered it said:

"This is an automated message from FSDN. You recently applied for a loan for home improvements. We'd like to know if you're still interested in a new bathroom, kitchen..."

At this point I hung up.

What's going on? I've never heard of FSDN, neither have I applied for any finance. Is it a scam?

    Any advice appreciated.
  • I would ignore it and report the call to your phone provider
Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!
As D'Ream would sing 'Things.....can only get better'!!!
  • Hi All,

I registered my mobile, OH's mobile and house phone with TPS 2 months ago. Today alone I've received 3 automated calls telling me I've won a holiday, won a car and asking me do I want to claim compensation for any accidents.

Is there anything else I can do to stop these people from ringing me?!
;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)

You can call your telephone provider & advise them of the call. Otherwise its just a patient game of waiting for the TPS to filter your number through.
  • The TPS takes a while to get round all the people, it took me almost 6 months to stop receiving unwanted calls.

Hang in there, it does get easier.

Today I received a call from an Automated system, American accent... message was "You have won a cruise, to claim your cruise, press 9" I hung up however found it difficult getting my line clear, ended up taking the batteries out of the phone and leaving it for a moment. Dialled 1471 and the number that came up was 0014079998888. I'd imagine that if I had been stupid enough to press 9 then I would have incurred a Premium Rate charge?
I have Premium Rate calls barred on my Mobile not sure if this can be added to my BT line?

No. Impossible (an incoming call cannot change to being an outgoing call unless YOU hang up first, get a dial tone and then dial.

Yes, Premium Rate barring can be added to your BT line - one of the few things that's free.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Thanks for the info...

Now wondering what would have happened if I'd pressed 9?

Nothings for nothing so am sure I didn't win a cruise.

    Cheers

You'd confirm to their computer that a real person answered (answering machines and faxes don't press 9) - so you could either be put through to an 'agent' or your number would be recorded so it could be targeted again for future scam calls.

Thanks again for that last bit of info, "(answering machines and faxes don't press 9)"
I did not know that either.
