I have been called twice this week by 01212733761 and it was just high-pitched screaming down the phone. I found it pretty frightening until I typed it into google, found this thread & realised that they are a company...I'm guessing the high-pitched scream is just a machine gone wrong.
I've reported it to Ofcom.0 -

I've reported it to Ofcom.
High pitched squealing could have been a fax machine.
http://www.pacdv.com/sounds/machine_sound_effects/fax_call.wavIt's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
I've been receiving silent calls on and off for the last month and today I actually got someone on the line. An Indian sounding gentleman named Robin (?) saying he was from Winsor finance.
We're registered on the TPS and it was all I could do to stop myself from screaming this at him and slamming the phone down.
I managed to stay on the line for a few minutes asking for him to repeat the name of the company, to give me the telephone number of the company (he wasn't at liberty to tell me this) and finally to ask for the address. At that question I got the telephone number out of him - 0131 2733761. Fancy that.
After that I told him we on the tps and he couldn't apologise quick enough. I have warned him that we will take the matter further if we recieve any more calls from them. Anyone up for that bet?0 -
We received a call from some one from 'windsor finance' this afternoon at about 15:00. He asked for confirmation of my name, address and post code (which they already had) and stated they knew we had a mortgage on the property. I wasnt happy that this person totally unknown to me had this informaton. I asked where they had got the information from and the person said it was comercially available information. I told him I didnt wasnt to talk to him and he hung up. I 1471'ed and tried to ring back but couldnt get through (as other have found out before me).
Is this some sort of scam? should I be worried that they have our details? Have the FSA or any other body carried out any investigation into this issue?0 -
Over the past three days I've received eight or nine calls from the number 01212733716 on my caller ID. I initially thought it was an enquiry as I run holiday flats so I tried to call it but it would not ring. I answered the last one, it was a man with an asian accent asking for a survey. I declined.
I tried the Ofcom complaints web page but it's not working due to maintenance!!0 -
I received 7 calls from this number - 0121 273 3761 yesterday alone. I have had at least another 15 over the last 3 or 4 days.
I see from some of the previous posts that the company is Windsor Finance, but I can't find any more information about them. Can anyone help?
My number is ex-directory, withheld and registered with the TPS from the day I changed it due to previous phone harrassment and I would like to make a complaint about, but at the moment it looks like TPS can't help, so I wanted to complain to the company, preferably their chief executive. This has worked well for me in the past.
Thanks!0 -

From a recent telephone call on my TPS registered phone received from the UK's largest and most well-known double glazing company:
me: you are aware this number is TPS registered and you're now in a whole world of trouble?
them: oh, that is 0xxx xxxxxx isn't it?
(they read you back your full phone number and just change the last digit from, say, 6 to 7)
me: not quite
them: oh, I'm so sorry, I've mis-dialled
TPS admitted to me they're powerless to block this loophole. In a nutshell honest businesses will only contact their customers. Dishonest businesses will buy the TPS list to add to their database. And that's why they keep calling.
On the other hand, The Data Protection Act Does allow for criminal prosecution and compensation and telemarketers pay nothing to check your details if you are registered with http://www.optoutuk.co.uk.
I was registered with the TPS and silent call guard but still got 4 calls a day. When I registered with opt-out it took about two weeks before I started to see a difference.
It works because the companies actually have to do something about it or they get fined or the you can sue.0 -

I have received numerous calls from this number of the past couple of weeks and when I answer I hear a very brief 'call centre type' sound and then they hang up.
I have googled to no avail. Google Desktop tells me that I also googled this number in September last year, also to no avail
BT suggested Silent Callgard Service but I'm sure it's not one of those diallers, it sounds different. BT also confirm that it is a business number and suggested I complain to TPS - I hadn't thought of that as I didn't have the business name.
I refuse to call the number, other half wants to just to see what they say
I'm just very suprised that google throws up nothing at all
So I decided to post here so that google would at least show this thread up :Tillegitimi non carborundum0
