0870066 also belongs Core Telecom you can contact them at:

Core Telecom
Colony House
5th floor
South King Street
Manchester
M2 6DQ
t: 0844 272 2000
f: 0844 272 3000
e: help@coretelecom.co.uk

 but the number the op refers to is an opal one hence my previous post, and that of telephone man.

"This is what we know about the number you entered (08700668408).

ICSTIS does not regulate this type of number. However we can tell you the following.
• This is classified as a Special Services higher rate: BT’s Standard National Call Retail Price for BT customers number.
• It is provided by Opal Telecom Limited."

Re 01212733761, I've just had them call.

They gave their name as "Windsor Finance" and their address as

Crystal Plaza
Link Road
Andheri East
Mumbai 40053
India

Although Google suggests this as a legit Mumbai address there's nothing for "Windsor" there. I expect it's made up; in the same way as the people who called me's given names "Jack" and "Andrew" probably were.

I couldn't get them to provide any UK details, although they did say that they have representatives here and "worked with 250 banks and building societies".

The TPS won't help because they're overseas. The ICO won't be able to investigate for the same reason. It's not premium rate, so ICSTIS doesn't cover it.

Presumably someone's sold them the 0121 number and is connecting calls back to India on it, but I've no idea how to find out who? Phoning it back will cost them a few pennies of bandwidth and waste a few minutes of their time, so doesn't really achieve anything. CLI can of course be made to display pretty much anything, but the fact that calls back on that number work suggests that it is a real number.

It could just have been a phishing expedition, but given the UK number, was probably a "legitimate" attempt to sell my details on to a UK finance house.

When I got home today I had a message on my machine from an Indian (and annoyed) sounding woman saying she had called me 2 or 3 times and why hadn't I returned her calls. What is really worrying me is that she called me by my first name, I live on my own and despite half my family being from asia, none of them would have left me a message like that. I have had a debt solving company annoying me but that stopped when I told them I will take them to The Information Commissioner .

Caller ID and 1471 called up the number '0120'. Anyone recognise it or can someone tell me how I can find out who it belongs to?

Thanks

• I've had calls from the same people. Only once had a person at the other end - claiming to be Windsor Finance - but their calls are coming at ridiculously unsocial times (sometimes before 8am and after 8pm). I've re-registered with TPS and also subscribed to slient guard (explained at http://www.ukdatait.co.uk/silent.htm which takes you to www.silentguard.co.uk) although I've no idea how effective this is.

I've also completed an ofcom complaint form. They don't investigate individually but if enough of us report this bunch then perhaps it will get the ball rolling.

• 0120 is not enough to locate the caller. From memory, 01204 is Bolton, 01205 Boston, 01206 Colchester.

You can search for numbers and codes at https://www.ukphoneinfo.com.

So that this pops up when googling (so I'm typing it in with and without spaces):
01253 757060
01257757060

The 'trick' that these people use is to ring your mobile but hang up so quickly that you can't answer the phone. I rang back (as it wouldn't cost me any money) and got a recorded announcement to the effect that the company (couldn't hear the name quite right - something like Claims Again) wanted to help you reclaim illegal bank charges and to hang on to speak to someone.

I didn't bother to hang on! Notwithstanding that the announcement is a bit out of date, moneysavingexperts on this site would do the reclaim themselves!

We've probably had a handful of these over the past few months. Not clear who to complain to so have sent off details to Info Commissioners Office. Not expecting much to happen though as the regulatory regime seems pretty toothless.

• Opal and Core Telecom are the same company.
Opal 0800 298 6725 (subsidiary of The Carphone Warehouse Group) state that in 2005 they sold the number to 'Pure Windows & Conservatories'
There exists a company called 'Pure Windows & Conservatories' 01202 307170, Wessex Trade Cntr, Ringwood Rd, Poole, Dorset, BH12 3PF.
They know nothing of this number, but will investigate further.
• and they also have another office .. Pure Windows & Conservatories, 023 8063 1201, Itchen Ho Empress Rd, Southampton, Hampshire SO14 0JY

• They're a total pain. I've had this number come up so many times on my missed calls screen, and when I do answer the phone they hang up straight away!
