is there any way of finding out who rang and if so how?
when i finish on the late shift i get home to find numbers which i dont know. i dont give my number out, have caller id, ex directory ect but still get these numbers. very annoying.0 -
Googling the number is the first thing to do. If there's no info out there then hopefully this thread will show up and we can investigate collectively.Happy chappy0

We are with TPS as well and dont have many calls at all, did get one of these today from (01212733761) from Windsor Finance, man asked for us by name, when questioned he said he got our details from 'commercially avaliable data'.....I doubt if its a mailing list, due to being on TPS, so wondered if it could be a telephone directory?!!? (dont want to be exdirectory)
As they are are calling from outside UK (India) would the TPS actually be able to do anything, I thought they would only be able to deal with UK based companies covered by UK legislation?, can anyone confirm this, who has perhaps already contacted TPS about this company?0 -
You can opt out of being in the phone book, but still have your number available to directory enquires.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

Hi, I've had repeated phone calls from this number 0870 0668408. Doing a quick google search doesn't reveal anything, who they might be. If you answer, they (it?) hangs up immediately, if you let it ring, it stops when the 1571 bt answer kicks in, and there's no message left.
I'm guessing these people are trying to tempt me to 'phone them back, at which time I'll be charged an extortionate £ rate / min.
The number is now programmed into my 'phone with the name "Scammers Ignore" and a helpful melody so I don't pick up. But just had 2 calls already this morning, and wondered if anyone else was suffering from the same thing?
Apologies if this thread is in the wrong forum, figured this was the most appropriate place.
thanks

6p connection + 6p/minute daytime (incl. weekends);
6p connection + 1½p/minute evenings/nights.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
If you were to call the number back (no, I'm not suggesting you do), the call would cost whatever any 0870 call costs using your telco. In the case of a standard residential BT landline, that means:
6p connection + 6p/minute daytime (incl. weekends);
6p connection + 1½p/minute evenings/nights.
The number is unobtainable!0 -
