  • Hi eco21 can you help me?

I am about 6 months into a contract that I bought on-line YP text 3000 direct
so pay 25 per month plus calls. My 18yr old has the phone and said he only sent txts but as you can guess this is not true! He uses around 350 messages a month but the bill has been averaging 40 a month but today it is 52
It has to stop so can I change to another tariff with minutes and txt and what do you suggest?

p.s. have a 3000 txt eve and we sim yet to register as payg can numbers be swithched (ie he keep his number on payg but I hve the contract phone. (sory if this is a complete horror!

this is probably extremely stupid but i can't find it anywhere in my t&c.

I'm currently on the 10th month of my 12 month contract. how much notice do i need to give to cancel the contract after 12 months? should i ring and ask for notice soon or wait for a few more weeks and try and persuade them to give me a better package than i have now?

last year (without having even heard of the mse/mobile phone customer retention thing) i rang, asked for PAC, told woman why i was leaving and got offered a brill package, so i know that at around 25/30pounds a month (although horrifically sometimes 200pounds!!) im quite a valued customer...

when would you recommend calling and trying to get a new contract? last year i had every intention of leaving and was actually called back by the retention team trying to get me to stay. should i wait for them to call me or call them myself?

im hoping to get the motorola v3 and pay around 25pounds a month for at least 200 mins as well as around 200 text messages... i'm a student and had hoped that if i explained that i was willing to migrate to a student account elsewhere orange would offer me some kind of mixed package... what do you think of my chances?

teach him about money and make him pay it !! you should be able to change tariff now your 6 months is up, transferring to PAYG would involve having to pay the remaining months off, so best get a good tariff or you spending £££ for nothing to buy the contract out

However, as your tariff is ED50, you arent an 'ordinary' customer; Orange tell us to try and tempt customers off ED50 but when ever I speak to a customer with it, I say, keep it, good deal, suits you, dont change.

I think you actually may have a bit of swinging room, even though the low spend. This could equate to free texts as they do want to move customers off this tarriff.

If you like the Orange network and are happy with phone, why not upgrade, and be bit cheeky ask for credit aswell on account, sell the phone, and the money earned across the 12 months will cover the extra £10 a month your spending.

Many thanks for the help eco21. Unfortunately, I hit a brick wall when I dialled 150 and chose the 'if you wish to change your tariff' option (was this the wrong option?). I was told that as much as they don't want me on ED50, they are unable to do anything to help soften the blow for me. The best offer I was given was to upgrade to the X-net tariff, but tie-in for another 12 months in order to get 10% off what would be a much higher bill. Not much of an incentive!

I did try to make my point in different ways to see if there was any possible ways around it (handset upgrade, no handset upgrade, free texts, account credit, and so on), but the guy wasn't able to do anything and said it looked like I was probably best off sticking to the tariff they wish I'd leave...he said something along the lines of "I know that sounds silly, but it just goes to show that you really are on a good tariff. We don't want you on it, but I guess we can't do much to help soften the blow if you came off it."

Should I have gone straight through to retentions? It's not like I want to ask to cancel. All I really want is, say 30-50 texts a month thrown in on top for free. I certainly would upgrade my phone and tie-in for another year if it helped to get a little extra. Although I wouldn't bother selling the phone (but it's a great idea), I'd just ask for a Nokia 6230i and use the old phone as a PAYG. :D I was readying myself to be cheeky and ask for credit, but didn't even get past first base. Sniff!

Any ideas why they weren't playing ball?
