  • I've booked a disconnection for 25th January in order to put the thumbscrews on and just phoned Retentions to see what the best deal they could offer me to stay was. We don't have a TV so we were after a phone and 'L' broadband package.

Our old package was £23.49 for 'M' BB, unlimited calls, talk mobile, talk international and caller display.

We have been offered £25.49 for 'L' BB, unlimited calls, talk mobile, talk international and caller display, with no new contract tie-in.

What do you folks think? Reasonable deal?

That is a blinding good deal. I negotiated £11/month for just 2meg (small) service 6 months ago, but the !!!!!!s have reneged and have started charging me £16/month from January. Will be putting a complaint in as I verified the details of the deal 3 times before I put the phone down. Just be careful as sometimes the retention reps will tell porkies to get the sale (and commission), this has happened twice now, once with my sister and now with me.

You are spot on there! I phoned back a few days later to check and was told that my £10pm for 12 months was actually £11 for 6 months and then £17pm for 6 months. The guy actually phoned me back and tried to bulls**t his way out but I wasn't happy and decided to cancel after all (the irony being that if he had told me 14pm for 12 months I'd have probably took it).

They had however, already done something to stop the transfer of my number so when BT activated my line it only made outgoing calls and was the same number as my totally active Virgin line. So a few hours worth of calls to BT who kept telling me everything was fine or fobbing me off - the best one being that BT now route their phone through Virgin's network!

To cut a long story short I cancelled BT with no charge (after a few emails), moved out of the house:cool: and my (ex:D)wife has a new virgin phone line/bb in her name (with 2 months free and £130 quidco) which I think works out about £10pm
  • Hey guys, I phoned up Vm a few days back complainig that my 10mb internet was going pretty slow and that I have to constantly reset the router+modem to get the speed working again (about 5-7 times a day). Spoke to somone that said that it could be a problem with the router and they said they would send me out a free one and they also reduced my monthly bill by £1.50 which isnt much on the £55 we spend a month though it helps.
Box arrived, hasnt really helped much still reseting the modem often (now hopeing the internet is just a tem prob due to the weather). I also recived a letter from VM saying that I enterned a new 12month contract. With only a few month left of my old contract I was planning to get a retentions deal but now it seems they think ive entered into a new 12 month contract which I was not told of during my phonecall. I will be phoening them up tomorrow to discuss it but I assume they will want me to send back the router at my cost which i dont really want to waste time and money doing.
    any adivce would be great

    thanks

    Hi

I currently pay £39.45 (including line rental) for the below package:

    BB: 10mb
    Phone: Talk unlimited
    TV: XL
    Paperless billing

I am thinking of adding their £10 mobile deal to the package and am wondering what folk are paying for similar.

Could addition of the mobile force a renegotiation of my charges? For better or worse (although ideally better)?

    Thanks

    Lester

So I decided to mull it over for a few days, and with 11 days to go until the install of the BT line, I got a phone call from VM Retentions. They had received the fax from BT regarding the telephone number port.

This guy was a lot more amiable. He offered two options:

    1. 'L' broadband with 'XL' telephone & caller display for £23.49
    2. 'XL' broadband with 'XL' telephone & caller display for £25.49

Both options involve new 18 month contracts. I've gone for the 'XL' broadband offer.

I probably could have got a cheaper deal if I was on an LLU exchange - I could have quoted talktalk prices etc. But my exchange is in the dark ages and the cheapest non-virgin alternative I could find that covered our high broadband usage was going to cost me over £30 per month - makes it a little hard to bargain :-).

The moral: If you don't get a good offer, book a line install and number port with BT, then wait for the call from Virgin or give them a ring once you're around 10 days away from the install date.
  • Hi All,

Been with virgin for a number of years, last changed package 18 months ago and just took L Broadband for 25 p/m.

Have just moved house and looking to add the phone deal on too, with unlimited calls to local numbers and caller display.

We would need a fresh install here, and i dont really want to pay too much more, does anyone know of any comparable deals i can quote to them to allow me to get it for almost the same price, if not less wink.gif

    I would want

    L broadband
and the best phone package i can get ( would also need line rental )

    Thanks all!!

Ratty I've been with them for a few years and have ALWAYS got a deal - just
call retentions and ask to cancel - they will offer you an unbeatable deal as they cannot afford to lose any more customers
