richasshit wrote: »My first post on these forums and really its to give something back to all of you this may help.
Im on - TV M, BB L and pay basic telephone.
Wanted XL BB and all they could offer me was 1 pound discount vs if i rang up 6 months ago and asked for a upgrade mid contract.
also had problems with rude retentions advisors etc. Also they were offering me a price alot more than a new subscriber - so much for keeping loyal customers.
Now having worked everything out I can get Calls, BB 20Meg (upto) and Freeview TV for a total sum of 12.25 per month!
o2 BB 20m unlimited no throttling.( free 3 months plus 75 pound back quidico!)
So my adivce is shop around I see alot of you getting deals but actually paying more , now if you need the extra services great but if not you too can get same service for less.
My bills will go from around 30 pounds a month to 12.25 and ill get exactly what i do now without the nanny state Virgin are creating in the BB arena (throttling, CVIEW monitoring)
Best of luck to you all im more than happy to help anyone looking for a great deal spent around 6 hours yesterday looking at it all and reviews of companies.
New member here, not very good with modern technology, so taking up your offer of help.
I am with VIrgin and pay £19.57 every month for BB (10mb??). Have been told about getting BB/Phone/TV together for about £31/mth.
At the moment landline is with TalkTalk by the way.
Is this true? Or is there a better deal elsewhere? Also what is this loyalty discount I keep seeing mentioned?
In my experience with Virgin so far, their customer service is absolutely appalling, really feel like going elsewhere but don't want to cut my nose off to spite my face!!
My postcode is SR4.
Feel free to PM me if you like, all help greatly appreciated.

My PERSONEL opinion is no its not really. How long have you been a customer with them?
The reason I would not be happy (again my personel view) is a new customer can get :
XXL BB
M TV
L Phone (unlimited eve and weekend calls)
For a total of £36.95 a month.
If you add the fact that the first 2 months are free or in this case £3.45(for evening and weekend calls) for 2 months then £36.95 for remainder.
You would pay : £39.75 * 12 = £477 /year
New Customer : £36.95 + £3.45 (twice) = £376.40 /year
The thing I dont like is paying more than a new deal when ive been with them for over 10 years.
On the flip side I would say 50meg BB is great and you wont get that elsewhere (untill they bring in traffic shaping which is rumored next year)
At the end of the day its upsell not rententions again - they simply changed your package not offered you anything more. Mine was going to go from 29 a month to 39 a month for adding XXL BB and staying with them - however if id just phoned up mid contract and added XXL BB it would have cost me 11 pounds more or 40. They were offering me a 1 pound discount to stay with them!
I was clearly told that they are looking to attract new customers at the moment - wierd as this was thier policy years ago too.0 -
Thanks richasshit !
I too didn’t think that this was a good offer and it’s definitely an up sell.
I am with them for almost 5 years.
It would be nice to have 50 Mbps (but.. do I need it and rate limiting next year etc..),
I can get O2+BT for less than £20, so I think I might go down that route.
Definitely it’s unfair to charge existing customers extra for their loyalty.
They were quite keen to keep my business, and offered immediate replacement of the 5 year old Telewest box ! I’ve been trying to get this done for 2 years, just 1 call to rententions did the trick.
Wait till they get my next call asking for cancellation in 30 days0 -
Sorry but thats wrong m8
XXL BB
M TV
L Phone (unlimited eve and weekend calls)
For a total of £36.95 a month.
PLUS Line Rental £11
£47.950 -
Thanks
Recalculated w/ rental
I might go for O2+BT for less than £200 -
Just on the phone with VM, according to the expert exchange EACHE can't support more than 1 Mbps, and I had to point out that they are lying0

Phoned them up 4 times to change to the lowest priced broadband possible they wouldn't go lower then £11 for 6 months £15 afterwards for 2mbit
How on earth did you guys manage to get 10mbit for £8.50? lol0 -

I didn't phone to change.
I phoned with the mindset that I was prepared to leave, even if I really wanted to stay, think of it as an actor getting into a role.
I had the details of the O2 deal in front of me.
I told them I was leaving, countered their arguments, then made them work to 'persuade' me to stay and when I'd got what I wanted, I 'sort of reluctantly' agreed to the deal.
All through, I kept it light and friendly, didn't demand a deal, just let them think I was determined to leave, but let them do the work.Move along, nothing to see.0
