I got 0.256MB per sec. I do use newsgroups, which newsgroup should I go to?

Now the important question really is..... Is that game free to play? What files do I need and website/server do I play from? << Only interested if it is free to play, like Enemy Territory: Wolfstein (do you know this one)?

The support group you need is:

    virginmedia.support.broadband.cable

When you post don't give personal details, just the first part of your ntl / blueyonder email address is sufficient. They will ask you to provide modem signal levels, modem logs and a couple of trace routes to something like www.bbc.co.uk. You should also tell them the download speed from the gamefiles server.

I dont know whether any of those games are free, it's just that support use that server for customer download speed checks.
  • Useful fact that quite a few don't realise for anyone thinking of getting a deal with Virgin:

As soon as the retention's team changes your package, you are automatically entered into a new 12-month contract!

I was offered £18pm for the Phone & BB, only 50p month less than I am paying now. Someone else I think was allowed to stay at £17.50 a little further back in the thread. I doubt you'll get it cheaper than this

Thanks. I had a quick look through the thread and saw that I was being a bit optimistic. I called to cancel on Wed and was offerd £19.50 but told them to go through with the cancellation, which they did. Just got a call from them now and had a few offers, although they like to blur the true cost by offering you £x for 6 months which then jumps to £y for the second 6 months. Although to be honest it isn't that hard to work out the average of two numbers.:D

The best offering I got was just the 10MB BB at £16pm(6 at £14 then 6 at £18). I don't really use the phone but for £16 i can get line rental from sky and unlimited w/e eve calls with 10MB BB! I suppose the decision is if staying with Virgin is worth not having a phone:confused:

What do people think of that offer in the context of other peoples?

I thought the sky deal was £18.50 for phone / TV / 2Mb BB ?

Virgin should allow you phone & 10Mb BB for £18 if you hold out for it but you may not get 10Mb even though you're supposed to.

    If it's a choice between
Sky phone & 10Mb BB £16 with no playing hard to get
Virgin phone & 10Mb BB £18 with lots of playing hard to get.

I don't see why you aren't just taking Sky straight away

Why would you want to stay with Virgin with not even a phone included?

You do know Virgin call prices are also very excessive compared to BT (dunno about Sky).

Thanks, I know it doesn't make much sense but I'm very happy with my BB, plus the only people that ring me are my mum and salespeople - at least if she rings my on mobile her name pops up and I can choose to ignore it. Plus I'll need to set up new router and connect everything to the new network.

To be honest though I think you're right and I've been making it all a little bit too complicated. I'll leave the disconnection in place and if they offer something, great- but if not I'll be shifting it all to Sky.

Cheeky PS - If you're still on Auctionview you couldn't post me the prices for Grand Scenics at Nottingham could you?

    Check your PM.

I finally got round to cleaning up my ntlworld/virgin email account aswell in preparation for leaving Virgin, I changed all my online subscriptions/accounts to googlemail, so now I can leave Virgin and not have to worry about losing my virgin email access, something for you to think about aswell?

Yes, you're right, usually they do, but they used to allow customers who complained enough (after all some of us have been with them for more than 10 years) to have the new deal for a 12 month period with no 12mth contract restricting you from leaving.

However I do question the whole idea that they think they have us on a new 12 month contract when they don't send us ANY written contract my mail or by email, nor is it mentioned on the bills. And I'll bet that there are a fair amount of people who are not told on the phone when they renew, that they are on a new contract.

If you think about it, how can there be a contract when the buyer is not informed of any condition within that contract...... not a single one!?

It is also worth mentioning that when your 'contract' or 12 month period finishes it is not automatic that your bills go up. Mine have in the past, and so have many others. But this time my bills remained the same and I am now on £18.50 month (without a tie in period of 12 months) until they apparently randomly decide to increase my bills.

Thanks. I've been on Hotmail for years and years so have never used any of the accounts that you get with the ISP, so it makes it easier to sell myself to the cheapest bidder!
  • I have been an NTL customer for 10 years (now virgin media) and I have a phone and broadband deal at £22.50 per month without wi-fi box. Much better deals on this site, so I haggled with Virgin and got offered phone rental, free weekend and evening calls and 2mg internet and free wi-fi box for £18 per month or same package with 10mg speed for £20.95. They then said I can have all of the above (10mg package) with TV, box, installation with re-play ability for £25.00 per month. no other fees, just £25 a month for 12 month tie in.

That was a much easier option than leaving Virgin and signing up with someone new as I would have to go through the hassle of changing phone lines, installation fees, claiming cash back etc, just to save a few pounds a month. £25 a month for TV, line rental, free calls and 10mg broadband is good I think. Wi-fi box is sent by courier today and TV installation man is at mine in just 3 days. Not bad...... definitely worth a haggle!:j

From the dozen or so pages I have read there seems to be a recurring theme of people ringing up to haggle and ending up paying more (admitedly for more service)!

Fair enough if you want the extra services, but personally I'm not sure people end up with that great a deal!
