From the dozen or so pages I have read there seems to be a recurring theme of people ringing up to haggle and ending up paying more (admitedly for more service)!

Fair enough if you want the extra services, but personally I'm not sure people end up with that great a deal!

Couldn't agree more, in fact I was about to post along the same lines.

I have 10mbps BB only, no complaints with service in this part of the world.

Unless you were in Plymouth today.

My gripe was about inconsistent billing due the fact that I had a 'manually' applied discount, which somehow resulted in different amounts being taken each month.

I got fed up phoning every month to sort the bill.

Phoned retentions, explained I was off to O2, adding that I would get 3 months free and £75 back through Quidco, and yes I already had a BT line.

Countered their argument re cheap call packages by explaining that many of my calls are to mobiles for which I use 18185, which is much cheaper than their offering.

I had the original deal confirmed via email, so was able to forward it to retentions as he was slightly sceptical, and wanted to see the details etc, don't see why it wasn't on the system.

True to his word he called back within 10 minutes with a deal, and confirmed by email at the same time.

Result was a 12month deal 10mbps BB only, for £8.32/mth, £8.50 when VAT reverts to 17.5%.
    Move along, nothing to see.
  • Ive just found at that my bband was increasing to £25 per month.

Ive just been offered this deal which has been backed up by email. What do people think about this.

Bband - Tie in for 12 months (10mb)
XL TV - Tie in for 12 mths

Probably about the best you will get - and not bad
I am haggling at a similar level with a few days left on a cancellation wondering if the best retention people will call and the best offer is close to that but with unlimited phone and no extra box at £43

My first post on these forums and really its to give something back to all of you this may help.

Im on - TV M, BB L and pay basic telephone.

Wanted XL BB and all they could offer me was 1 pound discount vs if i rang up 6 months ago and asked for a upgrade mid contract.

also had problems with rude retentions advisors etc. Also they were offering me a price alot more than a new subscriber - so much for keeping loyal customers.

Now having worked everything out I can get Calls, BB 20Meg (upto) and Freeview TV for a total sum of 12.25 per month!

o2 BB 20m unlimited no throttling.( free 3 months plus 75 pound back quidico!)

So my adivce is shop around I see alot of you getting deals but actually paying more , now if you need the extra services great but if not you too can get same service for less.

My bills will go from around 30 pounds a month to 12.25 and ill get exactly what i do now without the nanny state Virgin are creating in the BB arena (throttling, CVIEW monitoring)

Best of luck to you all im more than happy to help anyone looking for a great deal spent around 6 hours yesterday looking at it all and reviews of companies.

Have you checked to see what speed you can actually get with adsl? No point in paying more if you can't get the speed.

( free 3 months plus 75 pound back quidico!)

3 months free is no longer available - unless you have already ordered it?

Currently have this package and associated costs:
    Line Rental £11.00
    Talk Evening & Weekend £3.45
    Loyalty Bb/Phone/TV Discount -£22.70
    TV Size: X L £23.00
    Broadband Size: L £25.00
    eBill -£1.00
    v+
    Total £38.75
Phoned retentions and best I can seem to get upgrading BB to 50mb/XXL package is:
+£20 a month to go from 10mb BB to 50mb
    +£20 activation fee
    Free router for 50mb service.
No installation fee, usually £35 so they say

So becomes £58.75 + £20 one off activation fee

Think this is a good deal. Not too worried about phone being M, L or XL. Do not use much.

What do you think? Seems if I was a new customer it would be £60 due to the £11 phone rental...

    Anyone got better?

Seems very similar to what post#860 got for £25 /month, have a look and see if you can spot any differences, if you can't, then hand in your cancelation notice and wait for them to give you the same deal as #860

Nah doubt it's a v+ and deffo not XL TV - more likely the freeview level

I think Virgin Media has changed a fair old bit really
    I finally agreed
    V+ XL TV
    10mb BB
    Talk eve and w/es
£35 with a phone tie in of 18 months and keeping my old loyalty bonus

    Fairly happy with that

I rang them up and they said if you click register on thier site you still get the 3 months free when ready to sign up ;)

Actually Id try it as when you goto register it says underneath button 2 months free now if anyones interested in buying may save you money.

Speed im aware of but with virgin I had 10m package so im hoping itll be around that or slighly higher but it can vary - the only thing is I dont want traffic management not because I download loads but ecause I want to be free.

Plus I have major issues with a company that essential phone tap your broadband they are doing it without consent for 40% of thier customers.

The 50M activation fee was waviered 3 times in 3 calls so any of you being asked t pay it refuse total joke fee in my opinion especially with some of you ordering more expensive packasges than me.
