No it doesn't - it means over utilisation, i.e. too many people at peak times.
My speed was great - 19Mb/20Mb up till around 7/8pm. Then as more people came home and used the internet the speed dropped. This was simply because I am in an ex-NTL area where the equipment really needs upgraded to cope with the use in the area.
What you are complaining about is capping because you have gone over the fair use policy - in fact you are probably one of the very people causing my speed to drop.0 -
I have a BT phone line and a virginmedia phone line going into my house. Would i have to pay to have the BT line reconnected ?0

With my 2mb connection......I doubt that very much:) and proportionally we pay far more per MB than any other users yet seem to get throttled the highest percentage for the longest time, a 2mb broadband reduced to 500kb is unuseable.0 -

It doesn't matter what connection you have - you are still partly causing the slowdown for others.yet seem to get throttled the highest percentage for the longest time,
Not according to the chart on this page;
http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/traffic.html
In fact if you read it you will notice that those on 2Mb are only capped at 50% on upstream as opposed to 75% for others.a 2mb broadband reduced to 500kb is unuseable.
To be throttled you will fit into the top 5% for downloading and uploading each day. If you don't want this to happen then either don't download/upload so much or pay for the 50Mb service and do what you like.
Either that or leave.0 -
With a BT line at £11.54 for Evening & Weekend calls plus £7.50 for 8Mb BB it makes a total of £19.04. Best offer from Virgin for the same package would have been £23 something and that didn't include Caller Display or 0845/0870 numbers.
I am also getting £75 cashback for the O2 BB which makes the deal for one year £11.54 - I didn't even mention the £75 cashback as they couldn't even get close to the deal without it.
After my phone call on Monday to cancel my Virgin services I have been phoned every day/night apart from Tuesday by their Retentions dept.
I have now been offered;
10Mb BB
XL phone - Anytime phone calls
for £13.95pm with a £30 credit.
Brings my bill to £11.45 for 12 months.0 -

What I was trying to say was.......
Since 2mb customers pay the most £ per MB then they get the highest monetary throttle on their service in % cash terms. And pretty near in mb terms as well.
In an Ideal world speed throtlling should be applied in a way so that in times of high demand it applies to even out the price paid by the consumer in £/mb.0 -
