Virgin Media Retention thread

  • After reading some of this thread I decided to give VM a call to try my luck. I am still in contract with them until december. My package to date was

    Line Rental £11
    Talk W/End 0
    TV Size: XL £23.00
    BB Size: L £25.00
    Paper Bill Charge: £1.25
    Bundle Saving -£9.50

    Total £50.75

I was looking to add the Sports/Movies and V+ but was going to wait until my contract ended to try and get a good deal. However, I asked if I could be downgraded as I was planning to leave at the end of my contract as I could get better deals elsewhere. They then offered me my current package + Sports/Movies + V+ box(Free) all for £61.75(minus paper billing).

I think I have seen better deals than this but I am quite happy to pay this sum considering i was quite willing to pay £26 for the sports/movies.

Just goes to show that they are still able to offer deals to customers still in contract.

Thanks to all of the previous posters who made me get off my backside and give them a call!!
  • Just finished the annual call to Customer Retentions:

    XL TV package
L10mb BB package (without traffic shaping etc)
Phone with free evening/weekend calls (includes the line rental)
    V+ box
    Additional standard box

    £46.45/month

I think that's a few quid cheaper than the package would be offered to a new customer.

...and then the window licker said to me...

That´s exactly the package I´ve been on since the end of last year. I agree with you, it´s a fair deal. Earlier this week, I called them again and they added SkySports and SkyMovies and the total is now 60/month. I cannot complain about getting both packages on top of my previous package for less than £14/month.

  • Just got my bill knocked down from £62/m to £43/m.

XL TV, XL Phone, Line rental, L BB.

    Very pleased.
  • Anyone know is there a best/worst time of the day to call? I tried the other day about 8pm and they basically offered me nothing to stay with them! Said I could have a V+ box for £49 but I see on here some customers have got them free plus been offered other things. I'm going to try again but wondered if anyone had any theories on this! Currently have XL TV, L BB, M phone for approx £34pm (customer for about 8 years).
  • I have just come off the phone and although I am not ecstatic, I am fairly pleased with my offer:-

I was on XL BB, XL TV inc V+Box, M PHONE for £55/Month

Now I am on XXL BB, XL TV inc V+ Box, L PHONE for £60.50/Month

I am more than prepared to pay the extra fiver for the 2 better services.

A common theme seems to be emerging here. Instead of VM offering people a cheaper price for their existing service, they are enticing people to take more services and spend more money with them. There appears to be some very interesting psychology being applied by VM, persuading people that although they think that service ABC is overpriced at £x, service ABCD at £x + £5 is good value for money.

Now this may be a good deal for some people, but I would have thought that before you make that call, work out what you think a fair price for ABC is and whether you are interested in D (whatever you think they will offer) and how much you would be prepared to pay for it on top of the fair price you have worked out. It may be something that is of great value to you, or even though it is an expensive item it has no value to you (for example weekday daytime calls would be irrelevant to me).

Then if they offer you D for £x on top of your existing price, you will know if it is a good deal or not

I could not agree with you any more, I have followed this thread for a long time and as a VM customer, I have spoken with them serveral times over the years and I notice trend.

You have Tv, Broadband and Phone, They offer you a deal with a extra Phone package, you need to take out a new 12mth contract..... So who really gains?

    I couldn´t disagree more with you. ;)

No, I get your point, you are right, if people wanted to cancel because they think the product was bad or way overpriced, then paying a fiver more for an "upgrade" might not be the perfect decision. However, I believe that most people are ok (or even happy) with what they get from VM but just try to maximise the value for money. I for one, I wanted to add SkySports and SkyMovies to my existing package. Official price is something like +27 if you are on TV XL. I called retention and got if for 14. That was great for me and I believe that it´s these kind of deals that most people are looking for. In the previous year, I got the package I had been on back then for 15 pounds less a month, Also a good deal for me at the time.

But in the end, it´s simple: If you don´t want an upgrade and pay for it, don´t take it! If you are happy with the service you get and the price you pay, don´t call retention.... IMHO.

    Cheers,
    DUS
