well ive just phoned and the best they can do is reduce my bill by £6.50.....ive told them i will look at my options for now....

they said i cant have the v.i.p pack with extra boxes free like im doing now either - so i would lose that discount and end up paying £12 more that way....

I have been a cable customer for 10 years in 3 properties and always been relatively happy with the service, especially the broadband, but I've just realised how much I'm being ripped of and need to change.

When I bought my current home 3.5 years ago I had installed Broadband(L),TV(L),Phone. At the time it was £45 p/m but has crept up to:

    Broadband L (at the time 4Mb now 10Mb) : £25.00
    TV L : £11.50
    Phone : £11.00
    Paper Charge : £1.25

    Total :£48.25

This is clearly far too much. I rarely watch the TV and could bash it down to size M and stuff the paper bill. The Virgin website lists Broadband(L), TV(M), and Phone as £25 p/m. I have read about people getting great deals and others being told to sod off and I'm wondering if I have much chance of gettiing them down to this or should I just take any reduction as good. I'm prepared to tell them to cancel it although I use my internet constantly. I think I have BT wiring somewhere in the flat it's just a matter of finding which skirting it's hidden behind and attaching a phone point and then getting reconnection but with BT line rental and broadband on top it doesn't work out cheaper and the ADSL service isn't as good I believe.

Anyone have any suggestions before I phone retentions?

    cheers

I finally got off my lazy bum after making this post almost a month ago and gave them a call.

I explained that it was too much, I had never been offered any discounts, and had been out of contract for years. I also said I would like the TV reduced to medium but was happy enough with everything else and I wanted the paper bill stopped. Straight away she offered to reduce my TV to M, registered me for the online billing, and offered me it all for £25, which is what I had seen on the website and was hoping for. They also gave me £18 refund credit from last months payment so next months bill will be £7:T. I'm happy enough with this.
The only TV channel I might miss is Eurosport but I can find a stream online for that.

First, Sports & Movies is an additional £26 with XLTV. With regards to the VIP package, for £98 you will be paying for all 3 additional boxes, 2 will be part of the VIP and you will be paying an extra £10 for the other 2 V boxes. At £150 per month, i'm guessing you are paying for your extra boxes somewhere on your bill. Don't let them fob you off on the VIP package with an additional 2 boxes as i've had that package before and as long as you do it over the phone then anyone is allowed it.

For an extra £5.50 , you could upgrade to M+ TV and that includes Eurosport.

To be honest it's not worth the £5.50. The only reason I didn't dump the box altogether is that the website has 10Mb and phone line at £25 as well so I figured I'd just hold on to it for the rare occasion I turn it on.

    Thanks Anyway.

Why don't you tell them to read this page - http://allyours.virginmedia.com/websales/product.do?id=11029 for the details of the VIP package at £98 (including the phone line) and that you want to add on a couple of extra boxes on top as well.

If they won't do it, tell them you want to cancel and wait for them to put you through to retentions. There is no chance of them letting you cancel if you are willing to pay them over £1,200 a year.

Seems like a good deal to me :T
  • My current contract with Virgin Media ends in September. If I sign up again, would I be able to get a new customer deal (such as the £150 cashback offer I've been reading about) or would they renew my contract as an existing customer?
