Virgin Media Retention thread

Just sorted out my retention deal with Virgin.
I was on:
XL tv
L broadband
L phone
V+ box
£66 per month
I'm now getting:
XL tv
XL broadband
L phone (with free weekend landline calls)
V+
additional box
£56 per month but with a discount of £6 a month for the length of the contract so I'm only paying £50.0 -
could you please advise - i have been offered
XL tv
talk unlimited (XL phone) + line rental
10mb bb
V+ box (hd channels)
additional 2nd room v+ box (HD channels)
caller display
for £49.78p
I also have the option of increasing it to 20mb BB for a total of £53.21p per month
At the moment we have a sky+ box in one room and have just had a VM box installed(+phone and BB) instead of a multi room from sky. so I know it is more cost effective to go completely with either 1 or the other but would like to know if this is a good price - i will be locked in for 12 months!
I need a quality service but equally need a good price. The extra installation and both V+ boxes are going to be done free of charge.
My hubby is wanting the VM as he will get a + box with extra ESPn channels and the HD but I obviously need to weigh up carefully.
There are a few channels that seem to be missing on the XL package to the sky 6 picks .... is there many to worry about loosing .... i think i can do without the baby tv for my nephew :-) but is there many more that are missing
its a case of you don't know what youve lost til its gone?
any help would be great as I'm getting my call back tomorrow. (lovely customer services man dealing with me which is a + in terms of quality of CS)
any thoughts or anything else you think I need to add or think about?
thanks in advance

Hi all
I'm currently on the VIP package and have been for a couple of years, i currently pay £102 a month for the following:
XL TV
XL BB
XL Phone
Talk Unlimited
Talk Mobile
Talk International
Sky Sports and Movies
2 V+ boxes
1 standard virgin box
Is it worth me giving them a ring and haggling it down a bit. I hear stories of people getting the VIP package for a lot less so am tempted to give it a go.
What do you think?0 -

That is quite a package.Oh what's the bloody point...?0 -

We have that package apart from M BB (still 10MB now but traffic managed) and only one V+ for around £46 - therefore your package sounds good. Ours is supposedly after a £23 "loyalty discount" but as the price has gone up by £8 and our internet dropped from L to M then I am not sure this is still the best price for us. If someone has a better price for:
XL tv
XL phone
line rental
M bb (or L- or whatever is now called!)
V+ box
additional 2nd room STB
I would be interested to know as I am outside contract and happy to renegotiate again.
Many thanks

They send you an email when you have been done, but it is worth rebooting your cable modem as it will then load the new speed if it is on the server ready (probably not the technical term but worked for me!).

I've only recently realised that I'm paying £37 for XL broadband (I also have XL TV, sport, V+ and phone with Virgin) This seems excessive to me. Out of interest how much do you pay for XL broadband?
Can you give athe bill breakdown for this?
Im currently paying:
Line Rental £11
Talk Eve+W/End 3.45
Loyalty Pack, BB, Phone TV 3D Sky £-22.70
TV Size: XL £23.00
V+ Box: £0
BB Size: XL 37.00
Paper Bill Charge: £1.25
Total of £53.00 / £51.75 before bill charge.
Just had a quick chat with Retentions but the bloke I spoke to seemed new and not willing to look into rejiggin the account or anythign for a better deal. He said the best he could do was £50.20 then when I mentioned skys similar package and offerings he said they could match sky and give a cost of £47.50
Now before this I had the account I currently have, albeit with a £5 p/m charge for V+ and a rolling credit of £15 p/m this was removed when I had to move home without warning and I never managed to get this discount back.
According to the guy on the phone the prices advertised on the site are not the TRUE prices and when a new customer joins the 20Mb their bill would show £37 but in actual fact theyre getting a £17 discount. I then enquired about he TV and other packages to be told everyones billw ill show the same details but discounts will be different. So from this a brand new customer really has a damn good chance of getting exactly the same as a customer that has been with them for x amount of time.
He also said that XL on all 3 would entitle me to a free 1Gb dongle but apparantly with this being a new customer offer I would be unable to have any form of loyalty discount.
Gonna give a call back and see if I can get back through to a better CSA.
Has anyone managed to get the 50Mb, Mobile dongle or free netbook as a current customer with offers through retentions?0 -
They send you an email when you have been done…
As I said back in June, I would be quite happy with 2meg if they would actually supply 2meg or close to it. The ‘traffic management’ they now apply to us ‘cheapo’ customers on the bottom level means dismal performance, and I hardly use it.
In early April I was told in writing of the amazing free upgrade to 10meg. At last! Goodbye to their choked dial-up speeds! (fat chance…)
In May, with absolutely no sign of the upgrade, they notified a general increase in prices across the board. In my case my monthly bill goes up 10%. Their price increase may be ‘the normal yearly one’ but exactly when did anyone here last get a 10% pay rise?
Here we are in August now, paying 10% more with a reduction in service. When you phone them to complain they patently deny any choking of the 2meg.
What a joke that a while ago they then promptly removed my ‘compensatory’ upgrades (compensating for the earlier lousy TV service) saying that unless I paid over £100 for Vplus, then I was stuck with the old defective equipment I’d got! What sort of company is it that you run Richard Branson? A loyal customer of yours for thirteen years and it’s just a pants dropping job for you?
Weeelllll… Despite my misgivings I decided I really must phone them AGAIN today and ask why they’re still not supplying the service they promised me back in April.
Once again I’m told that unless I pay £120 for Vplus and sign up for twelve months I’m stuck with the old defective TV equipment/inferior service to other customers. That’s some marketing strategy you’ve got there VM! They also now say they just ‘mentioned’ an increase to 10meg, NOT promised.
They did get round to offering me a new contract where I’d immediately get the 10meg but with much reduced TV channels, for ‘only a couple of pounds more per month’. On saying I didn’t want a new contract committing me to twelve months payments, they said: “well then, it’ll be late October for the 10meg upgrade ‘in my area’.”
After relating my woeful VM story to the sympathetic operator, it was then mysteriously revised to late August ‘in my area’.
Overall I just want MSE users to be aware that whatever looks good in adverts or on paper with VM, you’ll be treated like a doormat after you’ve signed up with them. This really is what they do to longstanding customers, so get ready for it, and be prepared to move on very quickly once they start to mess you about. The unbelievable hassle of talking to these people thinking they’ll see sense and be honourable re their previous business commitments is not worth it.
Once again: I really don’t like being treated so badly and being lied to Virgin Media!!!!!!
Once again: Abysmal lousy rotten miserable shabby service, Virgin Media.0
