Not from my experience. £9 a month for 10meg with no haggling required (deal organised mid June). BB via cable.

Have you got your bill yet? Sometimes what they offer you is not what you get! Also check you modem config at 192.168.100.1 and click on login and then passowrd and login is "root", then click on operatinal config. if you are on 10meg it should say
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10242000 Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 514000

Mine says that and I pay £8.16/mth, BB only.

BUT, this is what they call 'a manually applied' discount, i.e. specially negotiated and not in the billing system.

So every couple of months the numpties in the billing department c**k-up and it requires a call to retentions to get it reapplied.

Luckily I had it confirmed by email.

    The deal expires in October.
    Move along, nothing to see.

    hi moneysavers

are there any downsides to requesting to upgrade from 2mb to 10mb?
VM say that i wont pay any more and there is no 12 month contract generated as a result
i understand that the 2mb is beung phased out - but i dont want to upgrade and then find i need to go back to 2mb for some reason

    any advice appreciated

the 2mb version is available if you ask for it, subject to a 12 month contract. However unlike the 2mb version you have now it will be throttled a lot more than you are used to. So if you download a lot, its a no no.

I downgraded then asked to be put back up. Funnily enough I'm still 2mb but my exchange gets upgraded this month.

I have been a reluctant Virgin customer since February (moved into a flat and landlord had a deal with them which seemed like too much of a hassle to cancel).

We currently have free TV, phone with free weekend and evening calls, and XL broadband for about £38 per month.

I fancied getting a V+ box as I used to have Sky+ in my old house and loved it, so I called up Virgin and asked how much it would be to get a box. They told me it was £150 installation (!) and £5 a month thereafter, but that if I moved the old box into another room, it would be £95 installation. Seeing as I live in a 1 bed flat, I only need 1 box. Considering the offers online, I thought that £150 was a rip off, and the guy told me that there were definitely no offers available.

Knowing what Virgin are like, I called them straight back and got through to someone else, who promptly told me it was £49 installation, 1 month free and then £10 thereafter...I asked whether it would be a new 12 month contract (don't really want that) and he said yes, but that a cancellation fee would only be charged if I didn't have a "good reason" for cancelling!

    What a joke!

I have been a cable customer for 10 years in 3 properties and always been relatively happy with the service, especially the broadband, but I've just realised how much I'm being ripped of and need to change.

When I bought my current home 3.5 years ago I had installed Broadband(L),TV(L),Phone. At the time it was £45 p/m but has crept up to:

    Broadband L (at the time 4Mb now 10Mb) : £25.00
    TV L : £11.50
    Phone : £11.00
    Paper Charge : £1.25

    Total :£48.25

This is clearly far too much. I rarely watch the TV and could bash it down to size M and stuff the paper bill. The Virgin website lists Broadband(L), TV(M), and Phone as £25 p/m. I have read about people getting great deals and others being told to sod off and I'm wondering if I have much chance of gettiing them down to this or should I just take any reduction as good. I'm prepared to tell them to cancel it although I use my internet constantly. I think I have BT wiring somewhere in the flat it's just a matter of finding which skirting it's hidden behind and attaching a phone point and then getting reconnection but with BT line rental and broadband on top it doesn't work out cheaper and the ADSL service isn't as good I believe.

Anyone have any suggestions before I phone retentions?

    cheers

I have been paying around about £10 for quite a while now for Medium BB. I have just got my latest bill which is £19.77 which is crazy just for BB. Yes the BB has been upgraded to 10MB but to be honest I was quite happy with the 2MB. I am not interested in this BB small they are doing because of the download limits. I will have to ring them up tomorrow and see what they will offer. Should I be able to get about £15 for 10MB BB. I would be happy with that. If not I will start looking around for something else.

Rang them up and the deal I got was £14 for 6 months and the £18 for the other 6 months which I am reasonably happy with. I think £16 is OK for 10MB broadband. I was also offered £20.95 for 10MB broadband, Telephone line rental and weekend calls. I am going to think about that one. I wonder if they would throw in caller display and 1571 in with that?

*sigh* my contract is ending in 10 days time so have to give them a call atm I'm paying £51.63 for the following

    Line Rental 26 June - 25 July £11.00
    Talk Evening & Weekend 26 June - 25 July £3.45
    Loyalty Pack B B, Phone TV 3 D Sky 26 June - 25 July £-22.70
    Calldispl 26 June - 25 July £2.00
    TV Size: X L 26 June - 25 July £23.00
    Broadband Size: X L 26 June - 25 July £37.00

I happy to pay that amount but not £74.33 after the Loyalty discount ends, do you think they would let me stick with £51.63 when I call them up?
